We had a lot of exciting things happening in room 205 this week! Dr. Atkin (Mrs. Atkin's husband who is a dentist) came in to talk about the importance of dental hygiene. He brought in lots of things to share with our classes such as x-rays of teeth, teeth models & molds, a Megalodon tooth, dental tools & a moose jaw. The students really enjoyed observing and even touching most of these things!
Some of the students from the high school National Honor Society came to visit our class and read with our students. The kids enjoyed seeing the "big kids" and working with them.
We continued to work on our penguin projects to get them ready for our open house next Friday! Some groups chose to make a poster to share the information we have learned about penguins, while some chose books and one group even chose a brochure! We decided which information we wanted to put in our presentations to share with others. The students used our map in the hallway to remember where their type of penguin lives. We included illustrations that the students drew as well as real pictures we found on the internet to help make it as informative as possible. I am only giving you a sneak peek at our work because I don't want to ruin the surprise for Friday when you see them at the Open House! The kids are looking forward to painting their penguins and making their habitats this coming week to finish up our preparation.
The students were so excited for our 100th day of school on Friday. They were proud to see the sign we made hanging in our doorway when they got to school on Friday morning! We had a lot of fun activities planned related to 100 and we had such a great day celebrating!
We drew ourselves the way we thought we would look when we were 100 years old. I told them that I found an app on the ipad called Age My Face that I was going to use to turn them into old men and women and they were anticipating what they would look like all week! After we drew ourselves at 100, we added cotton balls for our white hair. After I revealed to the class what everyone would look like at 100 according to my app, we glued them at the bottom of their pictures and they went into their portfolios. We also used the numbers in 100 to make a different picture. We discussed how when they are put together they make the number 100 but I wanted to challenge them to think outside of the box and see what else they could make with the numbers and they really surprised me! Take a look!

Each student received a certificate congratulating them on being 100 days smarter! We had 100 day centers set up with activities related to 100. They made 100 glasses and added one hundred dots, stars, etc. I took their picture with this frame I made that said, "My 100th day of kindergarten" and that picture will also be in their portfolios.
They colored 100 things by following the directions on the paper, found different items in an "I Spy" paper and recorded how many of each picture they found.
They worked together on a 100 piece puzzle, and did a roll and mark paper with 100 cats.
They used 100 cups to stack and build with as well as looked around the room to find and write 100 different words. Below Destiny was using our behavior chart and lunch choice chart as a resource to help her record words.
We also did an activity with Hershey kisses that had numbers from 1-100 on the bottom of them. They came up, chose a kiss out of the bag, said what number they had and then wrote it in the appropriate place on our blank 100's chart. Once they did this, they were able to enjoy their Hershey Kiss!
We had a great week and we are looking forward to our first full week in a long time (hopefully)!
