Thank you to everyone who came to our Friendship Feast with Mrs. Myers class this week! It was so great to see all of the students with their families and enjoying spending time with their friends. We worked so hard to get everything ready for our feast so it was really amazing to see it all come together! We talked about what we the difference between wants and needs, what we were thankful for in our lives, and we drew stories about what we were thankful for. We also discussed what we enjoyed doing with our friends and drew stories to show that as well. We worked on making a friendship chain with Mrs. Myers class, our class thankful tree, colorful pinecone turkeys for centerpieces, a pumpkin pie, a welcome banner, learned and practiced a thankful song, and made thank you cards.
These are some pictures of the students putting their hands with what they are thankful for on our class thankful tree.
The students worked hard on their colorful turkeys. They had to pick 5 feathers that they wanted for their turkey and glue them on their pinecone.
Then they drew a triangle for the beak, chose googly eyes, cut a piece of red string for their wattle, and we glued them all on to finish their turkey. They turned out really great!
We practiced singing out thankful song with Mrs. Myers class.
The students also wanted to make a friendship chain. Each student wrote their name on a strip of paper and we stapled them together to make a chain. Mrs. Myers class attached their chain to ours and we used it as a decoration at our feast.
We wrote the words "Friendship Feast" in the middle of the welcome banner for our feast. Mrs. Pinto helped the students from both classes put their handprints all along the outside of the banner and we displayed it near the entrance to our feast.
Since we have been learning about pumpkins, the students asked if we could make pumpkin pie for our feast. We worked together to put in all of the ingredients and mix them together. I took it home, cooked it and brought it to the feast on Thursday. I didn't get to try any but I heard that it was delicious!!
We decided that we needed to make thank you cards for people who helped out for our feast. Ms. Tina donated and prepared the turkey for us, Ms. Juda & Mr. Dwaine are our custodians who helped set up and clean up, Ms. Hall & Dr. Clifford were also helpful in serving and preparing the desserts and drinks during the feast. We made all 5 of those important people thank you notes to show how grateful we were for their help!
Our class thankful tree is on the right and Mrs. Myers class thankful tree is on the left.
Mrs. Myers class created the paper bag pumpkins for our centerpieces and our class made the turkeys. They both turned out great!
Our classes friendship chain
Before we began our feast, we sang our thankful song for our families. The students used their loud singing voices and did a great job!
A big thank you to Mrs. Myers for a great evening!
The labels for the food, drinks, and desserts were created by Mrs. Myers class.
Thank you again to everyone who made our feast a huge success! On Friday we went to Mrs. Myers class to eat some left over turkey, juice, and water with our friends. We shared with our friends what we were thankful for and enjoyed the yummy turkey!
On Friday we got to go to PNC's mobile planetarium One World One Sky. We got to learn about the sun, moon and stars with the characters from Sesame Street.
The students had a great time and really enjoyed experiencing the planetarium!
We also read "I Know an Old Lady who Swallowed a Pie" which is based on the story I know an Old lady who Swallowed a Fly.
We learned 5 more lowercase letters and practiced reading the letter books for each of those letters. We also earned our pink color book which is our last color sight word! Ask your child to read you all of these books to practice their reading skills. Don't forget to have them point to each word as they read!
Along with our other books, we read another book about all of the color words. The students had to read the sentence on each page to figure out what color to make the pictures. They did a great job with this book!
Our preschool reading buddies came on Friday and we shared our color book "I Can read Colors" with them. We also shared a writing story about our friends with them as well.
The preschoolers have been working on creating a counting book. Mrs. Vogt and the preschoolers shared their book with us. They did a great job and the Kindergarteners really enjoyed seeing their hard work.
We worked on finishing up our letter and letter sound activities in literacy lab this week. We will start working on guided reading after Thanksgiving break!
We finished up our pink mosaic, which is our last one. The students asked if we could make a rainbow mosaic so they worked on that this week as well.
All of the mosaics have turned out great and the students loved the rainbow one just as much. They are very proud of these!
Since we finished the book of Charlotte's Web, we were able to watch the movie on Friday as well. The students enjoyed comparing the book to the movie and discussing what was the same and different between the two. They really enjoyed watching the movie!
Our pumpkin seed has grown so much! Our sprout has now started to grow another leaf. The students are speculating that it will turn into the vine based on what we learned about the life cycle of a pumpkin. We will have to wait and see!
We were definitely thankful for this warm day on Friday in late November!
Thanks for checking in! I hope you all have a great holiday and enjoy your time with family, friends, food and fun.
