Even though we had a short week this week due to the weather, we had a lot to get done. Like always! We began our Polar Animal study by finding the polar regions (The Arctic & Antarctica) on the map. We talked about how the weather/temperatures are different from where we live. We came up with a list of animals that might live in these areas including but not limited to: polar bears, penguins, rabbits, foxes, deer, goose, birds, walrus, otters, bears, seals, fish, whales, caribou, moose. We will continue to discuss the characteristics of these areas as well as the animals that live there.
We started all new work stations and below are some pictures of the children enjoying them!
On the left: Practicing handwriting and small motor skills by tracing lines & letters.
On the right: Sorting children's names by how many syllables are in their name.
Matching the crayon to the correct color blob and color word.
Saying the correct alphabet letter or sight word on the fish and then feeding it to the penguin.
Using cups to stack and make sculptures after saying the correct sight word.
Sight word candy land.
On the left: Measuring pieces of paper different sizes using unifex cubes.
On the right: Using Geoboards to make different shapes.
On the left: Match the number of tally marks to the correct number.
On the right: Sorting the correct number of beads to match the number in the slot.
Writing the correct number to match the number word as well as the representation in the tens frame.
We looked at videos that showed different polar animals to get the children thinking about these animals.
We also looked at books to find pictures and information about these animals.
We found out what some of the things are that the children would like to learn about Polar Animals such as: Where do the animals sleep?, How do they keep warm?, What do they use to make their homes?, How do they protect their babies?, How do Polar Bears swim so well?, and many more!
Don't forget we have a QPT day Tuesday and the kids will be released at 12:00. Have a great week!
