On Monday we shared the knowledge we have learned about penguins with other classes. Each of our five groups focused on a different type of penguin and chose to create a different way to share their information.
The Little penguin group chose to create a poster.
The Macaroni penguin group also chose to create a poster.
The Galapagos penguin group chose to create a big book.
The Emperor penguin chose to create a big book as well.
The Chinstrap penguin group chose to create a brochure.
After we finished our presentations, the classes walked around and observed our clay penguins, habitats and the books our friends wrote about the penguins. Our class read their books to the visitors and explained to them how they made their penguins and habitats.
We started doing research on reptiles and amphibians. The students are so interested in what we have learned about these fascinating animals so far!
We found this picture of a chameleon camouflaging to match a rainbow and now it is the background of our computer! We also found these really amazing pictures of reptile eyes. The kids were so amazed at how different they are from humans eyes!
One of the kids favorite things that we learned this week was that the horned lizard can squirt blood from it's eyes! I found this video and showed it to them. Some of the kids were amazed and intrigued and some were disgusted! Here is the link to the video if you want to check it out: http://youtu.be/GgB4u6Mgy2M
Another cool video we found was of a chameleon changing colors to match different colored sunglasses. Here is the link to that video: http://youtu.be/KMT1FLzEn9I
We also found two videos of a bull frog croaking. It was really cool to see how the frog moved when it was croaking. Here are the links: http://youtu.be/AfR1OYyQv2Q, http://youtu.be/M02_dnl9zCA
We got the chance to go down to explore the science fair stations during the day on Thursday before they opened to our families on Thursday night. They had a great time! Take a look at pictures of the students exploring some of the stations below.
Tornadoes
Exploring worms and magnets
Color mixing with paint in a zip loc bag
Figuring out which objects rolled and which ones slide down the ramp and more magnet exploration
Feeling different objects in boxes and musical glasses
Exploring worms
Guessing different smells
Some of our friends exploring our station, "The Penguin Walking Experiment" at the Science Fair with their families.
Mrs. Myers class just finished a huge castle study and they wanted to share their learning with us so we got the opportunity to hear about it on Friday. They shared with us what a castle looks like and what the different parts of the castle are used for. They also shared who lives and works in castles, how life in the past was different from life today, castle defenses and weapons and a map of different castles (including one here in Ohio!).
After they finished presenting, we explored their classroom which they turned into a castle and listed to their friends read their non fiction stories to us.
Exploring the chandeliers their class made.
At the very end they shared their favorite video with us where a knight was putting on his armor. Our class really enjoyed listening to their presentations and learning about castles.
As always we had a busy week, and next week will be no different! Be sure to check back next week to see what we have been working on.
Have a great week!
Mrs. Brittany Garrabrant
