Treasure Blocks, Letter F and Red books, Open House, Workstations & More!

We had a short but busy week in Kindergarten here in our classroom!! We learned about 4 more friends who shared their treasure blocks, signed our class promise, enjoyed a birthday snack, earned our letter Ff and color red books, had our Kindergarten Open House, started workstations, worked on 2 more pages in our school rules book & began working in literacy lab. Take a look below for more details on our fun and busy week!

We learned about these friends this week as they shared their treasure blocks:
Left: Laylah & Tayden working in our Look Closer area during our "I Wonder" exploration time.
Right: Eli & Channing working in our Small Hands area.
Left: Teah & Van working in our Loose Parts area.
Right:  Jayden & Gage in our Home Living Area.
Left: Kayla, Carter & Cwenlee exploring our science area.
Right: Merylin, Amaiya & Gracie working in our writing area.
Left: Aiden, Jenna A., & Lilliana working in our engineering area.
Right: Jade, Janah M., Jaelynn & Anna working in our art area.
Mrs. Boxley worked with the students to help them sign our Class Promise of appropriate actions & behaviors that we came up with together as a class.
I hung it up in our classroom so the students could be reminded of appropriate behaviors and we will continue to refer back to it when needed.
Tuesday was my birthday & my mom (Mrs. Boxley) brought in flowers and balloons for me!              I brought in Alphabet cookies (I found them at the Dollar Tree!) & Ice Pops as a birthday treat for the class. The students loved it and enjoyed celebrating with me.
We worked on learning the letter F this week and students were able to earn their book with words/pictures beginning with the letter F. The students will get a book for each letter that we learn and they can practice reading these at home! We also made a list of things that begin with the letter F and the students drew pictures for our letter F card which will go up on our Alphabet wall. I will post pictures of our letter F card once I have put their pictures all together!
We also practiced spelling the color word Red this week and the students earned their Red books. The students learn songs to go along with these color books which will also help them remember how to spell the color words. As they bring them home, ask your child to read the books to you.
Here is the color Red song:
Wednesday was our Kindergarten Open House after school. I only took a couple pictures of the setup!
Here are a couple pictures of the many families who came to our open house completing the scavenger hunt around our classroom! Thank you to everyone who came to the open house. It was great to get to talk with you all!
These girls were making up their own game & enjoying the outdoors!
This week we began working in our Literacy & Math Workstations. These are fun, interactive & hands on ways for students to learn various Kindergarten standards in Literacy and Math. These will change every so often to incorporate different standards and learning topics.

Math workstations: Below you see Jenna A. & Anna working on using pattern blocks to make various pictures. We have been working on identifying those shapes as well (circle, square, triangle, rectangle & hexagon).
Cwenlee & Eli are using resources around the room to practice writing their numbers.
Aiden & Jaelynn are using plastic pieces to make different numbers.
Gage & Merylin are practicing writing numbers as well as using play doh to count and match the number of dots on the tens frame.
Janah M. & Carter are working on a number puzzle & matching numbers to the pictures with that many items.
Literacy workstations: Van, Jade & Amaiya worked on matching the uppercase letter on the ice cream cone to the lowercase letter on the ice cream and documenting the matches they found.
Jayden & Channing worked on lacing letter cards.
Tayden & Laylah using snap cubes to make letters.
Lilliana & Kayla tracing raised uppercase letter cards.
Teah & Gracie working together to complete an alphabet puzzle & color wheel clip matching.
We completed 2 more pages in our school rules books. We used our strong fine motor muscles to practice cutting, gluing and coloring inside the lines. We discussed walking at school & lining up quiet and straight.
This week we began going to Literacy Lab and the students worked on creating a page for our class book of "Brown Bear, Brown Bear". Mrs. Roland came to our classroom on Friday to read our completed book to the class. We will be going to Literacy Lab Mondays- Thursdays.
Here are some pages from our completed class book.
Mrs. Roland is our Literacy Lab Teacher & Mrs. Arnold is the literacy lab assistant teacher.
Here are the books we read this week.
Here are some important papers sent home this week:
