Of course we had another busy week here in Kindergarten! We worked hard in Literacy Lab, had spring pictures, learned about the sport Curling, worked on updating the student's Data Folders, did a directed drawing of The Cat in the Hat, shared our work with our Preschool Reading Buddies, completed a self-evaluation, earned a reward for working hard on iReady, and read some more Dr. Seuss books. Take a look below for more details on our fun and busy week!
Here is a sneak peek of the students taking spring pictures on Monday. You will be getting the proofs home soon and you can choose which ones you would like to pay for and keep then send back the ones you don't want.
We worked hard in Literacy Lab this week like always. In the listening area, the students listened to the story "Llama Llama and the Bully Goat".
They also worked hard on iReady lessons.
Mrs. Arnold worked with students on letter identification and sounds, sight words and sounding out words.
Mrs. Roland worked with students on rhyming and syllables.
I worked with students on guided reading and vocabulary.
The vocabulary word we discussed this week was 'rise'. Below you can see the students work. They wrote the word, definition (go up) and used it in a sentence as well.
"I rise in the morning.".
"The sun rises."
We learned about the sport curling. I read the students a passage with details about the sport and then read them sentences with blanks in them. We discussed the vocabulary words related to curling, figured out which word fit best in the blank for each sentence, and glued the correct words in.
Thursday Mrs. Rawlins came to work with the students while I spent some time with them updating their Data Folders for report card testing. She did a directed drawing with them on The Cat in the Hat. They had to watch, listen and follow step by step directions to make The Cat in the Hat. The students did such a great job and they turned out so beautiful! I will hang them up in the hallway outside our classroom for you to look at during conferences.
On Friday, the students shared their work from the week with their Preschool Reading Buddies.
With report cards and conferences coming up, the students filled out behavior and learning self-evaluations. I will be sharing these with you during conferences as well.
I gave the students the goal of passing 100 iReady lessons over the last 2 weeks and even with a QPT day in there, the students went way above that and passed 117 lessons! They voted and wanted to have popsicles so I will be bringing in popsicles for them this week!
Important papers sent home this week:
Thank you for stopping by to see what we have been up to this week. Check back next week to see what we are up to next!
Have a great week!
Mrs. Brittany Garrabrant
