We had another wonderful week in Kindergarten! We learned about 5 new friends, worked on 5 letters, learned how to spell 2 new color words, worked hard in Literacy Lab and on iReady, had picture day, and listened to some visitors read to the class. We also worked hard with our workstations, did a color mixing experiment with Miss Riggs class, and even won a trophy!
Take a look below for more details on our fun and exciting week.
We learned about 5 new friends this week.
We worked on letters F-J: recognizing them, reading a book about things that start with it, and writing them in our reader's notebook. The students also learned how to spell 2 new color words and earned books that went with our color songs.
Practicing reading our letter books.
Writing our letters in our reader's notebook.
Earning their blue and yellow color books. Ask your child to read them to you or sing the song for blue and yellow!
We also worked hard in Literacy Lab this week. We completed papers for the letters we were working on and colored the letter and picture using the key and reading the color words.
We also practiced reading more books for each letter of things that begin with that letter.
The students also worked on a 'Red' book. We found all of the words that said red and highlighted them with red. Then we practiced reading the book together.
Students also worked hard on their iReady reading lessons!
Students worked with Mrs. Ball to match rhyming pictures.
Then they looked at Letter Stories and circled every time that letter appeared throughout the story.
Students also worked with our Wright State Student Observer, Miss Reed on beginning letter sounds.
Tuesday was our fall picture day! Students had their smiles on and can't wait to see what their pictures look like soon.
On Thursday we had more of my former students come visit to read to the class. Kayla & Killion were both in my class and are on their fall break with Schnell and wanted to come back to read to the students. They read the story "Creepy Pair of Underwear" by Aaron Reynolds and the students really enjoyed this silly book!
Our friend Brooklyn's sister Isabella was also in my class and is on break from Schnell so she came back to read to the class on Friday. She read "If You Take a Mouse to the Movies" by Laura Numeroff & "It's Okay to be Different" by Todd Parr.
The students enjoyed listening to her read and she did a wonderful job!
We also did workstations this week. Students work in 5 different groups. One group is working with literacy stations, one works with math, one works on iReady lessons, one is doing learning games on the iPads, and the last group works with me.
Here are some of our literacy stations. Left: matching upper and lower case letters with the picture and word that begins with that letter to finish the puzzle. Right: matching upper and lowercase ice cream cones.
Alphabet puzzle
Alphabet snake puzzle
Here are some of our math stations. Left: pattern block pictures. Right: whale number puzzle.
Left: recognizing numbers and counting correct number of chips to match. Right: counting correct number of objects.
Students worked on learning games on the iPads. Maddie is looking at the picture and choosing which letter it begins with.
Students worked hard on their iReady math lessons.
Students worked with me on our number 6 page.
On Friday, our class did a color mixing experiment with Miss Riggs class. First we documented what we saw which was a yellow lemonade and a blue ice cube. Then the students documented what they predicted would happen to the lemonade when we dropped the blue ice cube in it.
Next, we dropped the ice cube in our lemonade all together!
The students used their finger to stir the lemonade and watch as they made GREEN lemonade! They were so amazed and really enjoyed this color mixing experiment.
After the experiment was finished, we documented us dropping the ice cube in and our lemonade turning green. Here is my example page. Then we learned how to spell the color word green.
This was the first week that classes would be earning trophies from our specials classes, lunchroom, and bathroom for excellent behavior. They will be announced at the end of the day on Fridays and our class was so excited to hear that we were chosen for the Library/Computer Lab trophy! Mr. Doyle came by our classroom to deliver the trophy and we were excited to hang it in the hallway outside of our classroom. We will get to keep it for a week and then will deliver it to the next winning class.
Important papers sent home this week:
Fall Family Scavenger Hunt invitation.
Please return to school as soon as you can if you haven't already so we know how many people to expect!
iReady login cards so your child can work on the lessons at home if they want. I think we figured out that this can be done on any device that has the Google Chrome browser. Please let me know if you need any help with this and I will help if I can.
The outdoor learning committee spent the day Saturday working hard on our playground to build a sensory path for the students. It was hard work but it was worth it. I can't wait for them to see it tomorrow! I will do a special unveiling blog post with lots of pictures and videos of the finished product along with students using it. I don't want to spoil it before the students see it!
Thanks for stopping by this week. Stop by next week to see what we are up to!
Have a great week!
