Winter Activities & More!

We had a short week due to the holiday and weather delays but worked hard and had fun too! We worked on writing about our dreams in celebration of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, wrote about a fact that we learned from a story about Zebras and made a sticker story about an animal. We worked on our Journey's curriculum and in our Reader's Notebook as well as learned about the letter F and made our card for the alphabet wall. The students worked hard in Literacy Lab, shared with their Preschool  Reading Buddies, worked hard on their iReady lessons, and more!
Take a look below for more details on our busy week!

To celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. day, we talked about how he had a dream that everyone would be treated the same. The students wrote about some dreams that they had. Some were serious dreams such as "I have a dream that everyone would be nice to each other" and some were silly such as "I have a dream that we can have ice cream for every meal".
We also wrote about a fact that the students learned about from a story we read about Zebras. I forgot to get a picture of that one though!
Students also wrote a sticker story about animals. First they chose a sticker of an animal, finished coloring the picture around it, and wrote a story about it.
Anika wrote "The owl is trying to find food".
Our Journey's focus wall for the week.
Students worked hard in their Reader's Notebooks. We worked on our sight words for the week.
We also worked on our letter sound of the week: F as well as complete sentences.
We sounded out words to figure out which one matches the picture as well as recalling information from a story that we read.
We focused on the letter F sound this week. We made a list of things that begin with the letter F, students drew pictures and we made our card for our alphabet wall.
Students earned their letter F book.
We also worked hard in Literacy Lab! Students worked with me on reading basic guided reading stories, answering questions about those stories, and practicing our sight word 'you'.
Children also did a picture sort and sorted pictures by beginning sound.
They also reviewed the letter M.
Valentine's Day is coming up in a couple of weeks so when Mrs. Boxley came this week to work with the students she helped them start to make Valentine's cards for their families.
Students shared their letter F book and some of the writing pieces they did this week with their Preschool Reading Buddy.
Our monthly free books came in and the students were so excited to take theirs home!
They also worked hard on their iReady lesson goal!
Important papers sent home this week:

Home Letter for our Journey's lesson
Information about Girl Scouts
 Information about our Valentine/Friendship Celebration
Thanks for checking in to see what we were up to this week! Stop back next week to see what we are up to next.

Have a great week!

Winter Activities & More!

This week was another fun week in Kindergarten! The students enjoyed all of the snow we got this week, including watching it fall from our classroom on Thursday! We got to display the cafeteria trophy, worked on our Journey's curriculum, and wrote about animals in the winter time.
We worked hard in Literacy Lab, had an assembly about positive behavior and asset builders, and got to share with our Preschool reading buddies.
Take a look below for more details on our fun and busy week!

Mrs. Sanner's class came to deliver the cafeteria trophy to us!
I forgot to get a picture of our focus wall for the week so I took one from the Journey's curriculum book.
Students worked hard in their Reader's Notebook.
We focused on our sight words for the week: with & my.
As well as our letter N sound.
Sounding out words and filling in the missing letters.
After reading a story about a bear hibernating in the winter, students then drew a picture of their favorite part.
We learned about the letter N, made a list of things that begin with that sound, and the students drew pictures to make our letter card for our alphabet wall.
Students wrote about different animals and what they do during the winter time.
Johnny wrote "The bear was sleeping.".
We also worked on making a snowman book. We read each page, found the matching object and glued it on the page all to make a snowman.
We also worked hard in Literacy Lab this week. Students worked with me on guided reading basic books, answering questions about what we read, practicing our sight words, and picture sorts.
Of course we worked hard on our iReady lessons!
Students worked with Mrs. Ball on identifying letters and matching them to their sounds.
For Fun Friday in Literacy Lab, students made a snowman by ripping paper & following directions.
During workstations, students worked with me on practicing a square and our color sight word pink.
On Friday, we had an assembly to refresh our building "bees": Bee Safe, Bee Respectful, Bee Responsible. We talked about the classroom trophies that we are working to earn and also the asset builders of the month for November & December.
On Friday, students were excited to share with their Preschool Reading Buddies. The Kindergarten students drew a picture to give to their reading buddy and read our letter N book to them.
Our letter E & W cards that I forgot to get a picture of last week.
Our class is very close to earning all of our buckeyes and therefore getting a whole class reward. They only need 4 more! Since they are so close, we decided to vote for what they wanted for their reward. They chose to have show & tell so as soon as they earn the last 4 buckeyes I will let you know when our show & tell will be!
The class also passed their iReady goal for the week so they will earn extra choice time sometime next week!
Thanks for stopping by. Check back next week to see what we are up to.

Have a great week!
