We had a great, busy week back from winter break! We worked hard on our Journeys curriculum, readers notebooks, and had many fun learning activities in Literacy Lab. The students worked on their iReady lessons, we learned about the New Year, and wrote about seasons. We did a sequencing activity for The Polar Express, made addition snow globes, enjoyed snowflake Cheetos with our preschool reading buddies, and started a new chapter book as a class.
Take a look below for more details on our week!
Our weekly focus wall for our Journeys curriculum.
In our reader's notebook, students worked on our sight words for the week: come & me.
We also reviewed the sound for the letter A.
Students sounded out words and chose which one matched the pictures.
We discussed seasons and students drew about their favorite one.
We also discussed sentence subjects.
We reviewed the letter sounds E & W, made a list and the students drew pictures for our alphabet card. I forgot to get a picture of the cards! Students also earned their letter cards for E & W.
Students worked hard in Literacy Lab this week as well! Here they had to unscramble a sentence to match the top of the paper.
Find and color the letter K.
Read basic guided reading stories with Mrs. Ball (and me but I forgot to get pictures of my group!).
We also worked hard on iReady as always! Students decided that they wanted extra choice time if they meet their 2 week goal. This is how far we made it after one week.
We learned about the New Year too. Students wrote about their favorite part of 2018 as well as something they would like to do in 2019.
We also did a New Year color by number. Both of these items will go in your child's portfolio!
Students also wrote about different seasons. One day, they wrote about their favorite season and another, they wrote about something they do in the winter.
During workstation time, students worked with me on practicing making a triangle & the sight word white.
Before winter break we watched the movie The Polar Express. We ran out of time to do our sequencing activity so we did it this week.
We also made addition snow globes. Students cut out all of the materials they would need for their snow globe, colored their snowflakes, and glued them on.
Then they wrote down how many blue & how many white snowflakes they had and wrote their matching number sentence. These will also be going in the student's portfolios!
On Friday, we shared a snack of snowflake Cheetos with our Preschool Reading Buddies. Students first sorted the Cheetos into the four different shapes and then they got to enjoy them!
The students enjoyed them, they were yummy!
Students also chose their free book for the month of January!
Important papers sent home this week:
Scholastic Order forms- Due 1/18

Important information shared regarding families who would like to enroll their student in Harold Schnell for first grade next year (our year round school).
