We had a busy, exciting week! We had spring pictures, worked on our Journey's curriculum, worked hard in Literacy Lab and created our letter Dd alphabet card. We continued to celebrate Dr. Seuss with fun workstations, writing activities, and a directed drawing. We also did a leprechaun book, shared our book with our preschool reading buddies, had our popcorn party and more!
Take a look below for more details on our awesome week!
On Tuesday we had spring pictures.
Our Journey's Focus Wall for the week.
We worked hard in our Reader's Notebooks on sight words and past tense.
We also worked on the letter D.
As always, we worked hard in Literacy Lab too! Students worked with me on guided reading, answered questions about the text, and wrote about what we read.
Mrs. Ball worked with students to read letter books and do letter sorts.
Students worked independently on sound sorts for 'ch', 'sh', and 'th'.
As well as letter sound sorts.
Students also worked hard on their iReady lessons!
For Fun Friday, students worked to unscramble sight words.
They also worked to sort words by word families.
We worked on the letter Dd, read our book, made a list of things that begin with that letter and drew pictures for our alphabet letter card.
During workstations, students surveyed their peers on what their favorite Dr. Seuss book is.
Students also worked to match pictures that rhyme together.
We read a book about 3-D shapes to practice as well.
Students searched around the room for sight words in a Dr. Seuss write the room.
Students also got to create their own character just like Dr. Seuss likes to do! They came up with some great characters as well as decided where it lives. Below are a few examples.
While I worked on testing the students and updating their ESGI data, Mrs. Derrickson came to work with the class. She did a cat in the hat directed drawing with them and they did a great job, they are hanging up in the hallway!
We read a Leprechaun book and students wrote on the last page where they would hide if they were one. They came up with some creative ideas. Some of their examples are below!
Kindergarteners shared their leprechaun books and Dr. Seuss characters they created with their Preschool Reading Buddies.
The class earned a popcorn party for exceeding their iReady goal for the last two weeks.
So on Wednesday, the students enjoyed their popcorn party!
Three students in our school sold enough in our fall fundraiser that they were able to go on a limo lunch ride. Our friend Nolan got to go and enjoyed telling us all about it when he got back!
Friday warmed up enough so we were able to go outside and the students were thrilled!
We hope the warmer weather is here to stay.
Since students exceeded our last iReady goal, I upped our goal this time!
After one week, they are doing great so far!
We have also continued to read our 101 Dalmatians book and are only seven chapters away from finishing it! Ask your child to tell you what is happening in the book.
We also read a book to get ready for St. Patrick's Day.
