We had a great week back from Spring Break. It was so nice to see the students' smiling faces and hear all about their week off. We had a busy week in our class full of learning and fun! We worked hard on our Journey's curriculum, in Literacy Lab too, and also worked on the letter O. We finished our Poetry Study by working on acrostic and concrete poems. Students decorated the cover of what will be their Poetry Journal, we took pictures of the class to go in our Poetry Book, and students signed their names on our Meet the Authors page. Students got to choose their free book of the month for April and we planted some vegetables in our class garden box so we can watch them grow. Also this week, Miss Sarah came to our class, did a lesson on friendship and then the students made a friendship bracelet for a classmate. Students shared their work with their Preschool reading buddies, we started reading a new chapter book, and of course enjoyed playing outside!
Take a look below for more details on our awesome week.
Our Journey's Focus Wall for the week.
Students worked in their Reader's Notebooks on the letter O and sounding out words with O in them.
As well as sight words.
And the pronouns we, he and she.
We worked on the letter O this week, read our letter book, made a list of things that start with o, and the students drew pictures for our letter O card.
We worked hard in Literacy Lab this week as well. Students worked with me on reading basic guided reading books and answering comprehension questions about what we read.
They also worked hard on their iReady lessons.
Students worked with Mrs. Ball on making a word family book.
Students worked independently to unscramble puzzles to make different words.
We read a story called Zin Zin Violin and students wrote about their favorite instruments. Students used the book and I also wrote the instrument names up on the board for students to use as a resource to spell the name and draw a picture of their favorite instrument.
We finished our poetry study by learning about and writing acrostic and concrete poems.
Students wrote acrostic poems about Spring, the Earth, Music, and even made up their own words.
Students also decorated the cover of what will be their Poetry Journals.
I took a group picture of the students for our poetry book meet the authors page.
Then the students signed their name on the page.
We also took a group picture with me in it for the front of our poetry book.
Students got to choose their free book of the month for April.
We have been continuing to sound out and write CVC words as well.
Our class planted 3 vegetables in our garden box; lettuce, green beans, and peas. Students helped me add the dirt, plant the seeds, and water the vegetables. We labeled our garden box so we knew what the sprouts were when they started to come in. They can't wait to watch them grow!
Miss S's class planted their vegetables before spring break. They put their garden box out on the playground and the students enjoyed looking at their sprouts that they already have growing.
Our school Mental Health Counselor, Miss Sarah came to our class on Friday to do a friendship lesson with the students. Then they got to make a friendship bracelet for a classmate. The students really enjoyed this activity and wearing their bracelets!
The students shared their poems and letter o books with their Preschool Reading Buddies.
Students have worked so hard this week on their iReady lessons and have been dominating the goal I gave them for the 2 weeks!
We started reading a knew chapter book as a class; James and the Giant Peach.
The students have really been enjoying it so far!
Of course we loved playing outside as well!
