We had another fun filled week in Kindergarten! We learned about more friends this week, and continued drawing pictures of our friends and writing their names on the paper! We also learned how to spell the color word green this week and earned our green color book! We also did a fun color mixing experiment with Miss. Riggs' class where we mixed yellow lemonade with a blue ice cube to make green lemonade! We also got to go outside and enjoy some popsicles on Friday!

Our sight word for this week was like. The students have been practicing spelling the sight word as well as recognizing it when they see it. Below is a video of the students using our "fist bump and say our words" that is on our wall. We have been practicing using it quietly as we walk out of the classroom by saying the word, spelling it, and then saying it again.
This week we continued to learn about letters and practice writing them, identifying words that start with that letter, and finding the letter amongst other letters! This week we worked on the letters P, Q, R, S, and T!
Below are some pictures of the students practicing tracing capital and lowercase letters that we were working on throughout the week. We focus on one letter each day of the week and learn the chant that we can say to help us remember how to write each letter!
Along with practicing tracing the capital and lowercase letters and learning the chant to help us remember, we also talk about what sound that letter makes. We then look at some different pictures and decide whether the object starts with the letter we are focusing on, if it doesn't we put a X in he circle, if it does we practice writing that letter in the circle. We do a set for both uppercase and lowercase so they can practice writing both.
We also had 3 more friends share their treasure boxes and tell us more about themselves!

The students continued to work on drawing appropriate pictures of their friends. We have been really working on making sure that our pictures show our friends doing something that they mentioned (playing at the park, riding a bike, riding the bus, etc.). We have also been working on making sure that our pictures are *three star* quality. That means that we color in the lines, we fill all the white space, and the colors make sense. Below is the anchor chart that I made to help remind the students what three start coloring looks like. We also have been working on adding details to our drawings.
I have been working with small groups of children while we are drawing our pictures of the friend who shared their treasure box that day. We have been working together to make appropriate pictures and learning how to draw a person amongst other things.
Because of this, I haven't been able to get as many pictures of students drawing their friends during this time. Below are some of the pictures I was able to capture during this time last week.
We have also been working on writing the letters p, q, r, s, and t on paper. The students practice tracing the letter using crayon, then tracing it with a pencil. Next, they color in objects that start with that letter, and then find the letter in the box and circle it.
In literacy lab this week students in my group have been working on the letters c and f. We start by talking together about what sounds these letters make, then the students are able to look through pictures and identify if objects start with that letter or not.
Below, the students colored in objects that started with the different letters.
Both Mrs. Coberly's groups and my groups continued to work in iReady on reading. They also played games where they took turns matching letters to the corresponding letters on the board.
Mrs. Coberly worked with her groups on identifying letters, letter sounds, and deciding if words started with the same letters.
We also used clothespins and letter wheels this week in literacy lab to practice identifying words that started with f and c. This was also working on their fine motor skills by using the small clothespins and clipping the to the letter wheels. The students really enjoyed this activity and using different materials while learning.
We continued to practice writing some numbers this week. The students practiced tracing the numbers, worked on identifying fingers, dots, and dice that corresponded with that number, learned how to spell the number, and also worked on filling in tens frames to represent that number.
We also made "magic lemonade" this week with Miss. Riggs' class! Before making the lemonade I told the students that we were going to be doing an experiment with Miss. Riggs' friends using yellow lemonade and a blue ice cube. I told the students that we were going to be taking our lemonade and adding a blue ice cube to it. I asked them to predict what they thought would happen. We drew pictures on our magic lemonade paper to document what we observed and what we predicted. Below is the example I made for the students on how to draw the lemonade, the ice cubes, and lastly how to draw our predictions (I told them to color it in what ever color they thought the lemonade would turn).
Below are some pictures of what the students drew for their predictions.
After drawing our predictions we headed over to Miss. Riggs class to do our experiment! The students discovered that when you mix yellow and blue together you get the color GREEN! They were so excited to see the color change, and of course drink their delicious lemonade!
Here is a video of the students lemonade after they mixed the blue and yellow together!
After our experiment in Miss. Riggs' class, we headed back to our rooms to document what we saw when we mixed the blue ice cube in the yellow lemonade!
Before our experiment we made an anchor chart to document what color we thought the lemonade would change to, we had 14 students who thought it would turn blue, 1 thought it would stay yellow, 3 through it would turn pink, 1 student thought it would turn green, and 3 students thought it would many different colors.
When we came back to class, I documented out observations on the anchor chart showing that we started with a glass of lemonade and a blue ice cube, and then we put them together, next it turned green, and lastly the students wanted to document that they drank the lemonade.
We also talked about how to fill out the magic lemonade experiment paper. I showed them an example of what they could draw on their papers.
We also got to get our green book this week since we learned how to spell the color green during calendar!
On Friday we went outside to enjoy some popsicles after this hot week that we have had!
We have been working hard on our bingo game by practicing our transitions from one activity to another, as well as keeping 0 inch voices in the hallway. Here is an update on how close we are to our next prize, pajama day!
We also got the "restroom" award this week for being respectful and responsible while using the restrooms! The students were very excited to get a trophy to put outside of our room!
