Like I previously mentioned we have noticed that our students are REALLY interested in learning about everything animals! We started this week by talking about animals that can be found in Ohio. We read stories about Ohio animals, watched videos to find out more about them and also began to discuss what animals do in the winter time when it gets cold outside. We learned that while some animals migrate to warm places, some of the animals that stay here will hibernate through the winter.
The children were inspired in their writing by the weather last week. Kuryn wrote a book called, "Snow" and she wrote "I like to play in the snow". Miley H. started a book about Fall and she wrote, "I like fall". I can only imagine that our animal study will inspire and influence their writing in the future and I'm excited to see this happen!!
We have used our new Ipad to work with small groups so far and the children have really enjoyed it so far! We used it this week to practice sight words on and if they were able to tell me the sight word when they were called on they were able to come up and trace it. The kids really liked this activity and they were already asking when we would get to use it again!
Ms. Pett is our food service supervisor and she will be making some of the food for our friendship feast. She came to our classroom and talked to the children about how to make bread. She showed them all of the ingredients and how to mix them all together. She let them smell the bread starter and after she showed them how to knead the bread she let them all feel it as well. Some of them were saying that they had done this at home before but some of the kids were amazed with how the bread felt so it was neat to see their different reactions!
She even had some bread that she had made before she came to our classroom for the kids to try!
We started talking about making our own invitations to send home for the Family Friendship Feast next week. We ran out of time on Friday so we will finish up on Monday and be sending those home for you so be looking for those!
We also changed out our workstations last week so here are some pictures of the kids doing our new workstations.
We finished our black and pink mosaics last week which means we are officially done with all of our color mosaics!
After it snowed last week it made ice on our picnic benches and the children decided they wanted to get branches and scrape it off
We also talked about what it meant to be a good friend. These were some of the things that they came up with. We collected some leafs from the playground and when it is their turn, they choose which leaf they would like to work with. They used a metallic sharpie marker to draw things that represented friendship to them. Then they wrote underneath what being a good friend means to them. We put some packing tape on top of them and they are turning out really great! We will finish these up next week.
Have a great week!! Don't forget about our Family Friendship Feast, this Wednesday the 20th at 6:00pm. We will see you all there for some great food, singing and a time to celebrate friendships!
Mrs. Brittany Garrabrant
