I can't believe this was the last week of first quarter, time has flown by! We spent the week trying to finish up some things in order to get them ready to share at conferences. Here is what we spent our busy week working on:
We finished our purple color mosaic and song so we were able to send home the book so the children can practice at home. We finished the color brown song and sent the book home but we aren't quite finished so I will post a picture when we are finished!
We also continued working on making our American Flag. We have made quite a bit of practice but we still have a lot of work to do in order to get in ready in time to share for conferences! The children have been doing a great job on it and so far it is looking really great!
For Halloween, we did a sorting activity with some festive treats. We used cereal for "Monster Scales", marshmallows for "Ghost Droppings", candy corn for "Pumpkin Teeth" and chocolate chips for "Witches Warts". We passed out a small handful of each treat and they had to sort them into groups, count each group and record how many of each category they had. We talked about which one they had the most of, the least of and also wrote the numbers of each in tally marks.
After we recorded our data on our treats, we got to taste them and decide which one was our favorite. The children enjoyed this part of the activity and were discussing with their friends which one was their favorite!
We also used shapes to decorate foam pumpkins
We continued to work on the Pledge of Allegiance during our morning meeting and I am beginning to hear the kids recite the words on their own.
We talked about what goals they will need to meet in order to add which beads to their achievement rings. We will work on putting these together among many other things to get ready for conferences next week! We also looked at the weather chart we completed for the month of October. We talked about how we had the most cloudy days with 9 and the least hot and snowy days with 0.
We practiced our sight words by doing fun interactive motions as we say each letter such as "opera style" or "frog jump". We also worked on writing skills in order to get our books ready to share in our student-led conferences.
Next week is going to be another busy week with getting ready for our student-led conferences. We are looking forward to meeting with all of you and your children for these. We will be giving out information on our Family Friendship Feast during the conferences but you can go ahead and make note that it will be taking place on Wednesday, November 20th at 6:00pm!
