We had a very busy full week of school! We read many different fiction and non-fiction books about sports. Here are just a few.
Below is Colemann's creation of a man in a parachute. He was inspired by a story we read about different sports and he created it completely on his on. The students chose which sport they would like to become an expert on. We got into our groups in art and discussed with Mrs. Pinto creating wire people and how to show motion. The students will be creating wire people playing their specific sport and trying to show motion by bending arms and legs. They drew sketches of how they were going to show motion with their wire people.
Below is a sketch of gymnastics and ice skating.
We made a sign to hang on our door for the 100th day of school!
"Happy 100th day of school!"
We made fruit loop necklaces throughout the week. We counted out 10 groups of 10 fruit loops in each circle. We double checked our counting to make sure we were accurate.
Then we strung our fruit loops onto a string. Our necklaces were then ready for us to wear on Friday!
In order to do our 100 day portrait activity, the students had to pick which color matched their skin color. They looked in the mirror and decided which one best matched their skin color. Then they wrote their name on the back in order to prepare for Friday.
This is the only picture I got of the activity. I used the app called age my face to make the children look like they were 100 years old and then the students drew what they thought they were going to look like when they are 100. Here are Mrs. Scherch & I as well as some other examples of what they looked like. The kids thought they were hilarious and really enjoyed them.
The students brought in a collection of 100 items. They counted them out into 10 groups of 10 which was great practice for our counting skills.
After they were finished counting, the students walked around to see their classmates collections. We had a wide variety of items brought in such as 100 pennies, marshmallows, crayons, suckers, cereal, shells, legos, jelly beans, etc.
In literacy lab on Thursday we read a story about the 100th day of school. Then the students used the numbers in 100 to make a picture. It was fun to see how creative they could be and come up with a variety of ideas.
Above Alyssa created a bird, below Betsy created a face, and Brooklyn created a butterfly. We also had students create ice cream, a car, and many more!
We created glasses for the 100th day of school. They added 100 of something such as stars, dots, squiggly marks, etc.
They put their glasses on and we took a picture with our frame that says, "My 100th day of Kindergarten". These will be in your child's portfolios for you to see at the end of the year. Here are a few.
We also made books where we colored 100 different things based on how they told us to color them.
We rotated between ours and 4 other classes to do various activities related to the 100th day of school. In Mrs. Oda's class the students used 100 of different objects to build with.
In Mrs. Myers class, the students helped to make a hundreds chart by working with a partner to add "beautiful stuff" to different numbers.
In Mrs. Smith's class, the students did various exercises 100 times.
In Ms. Kramer's class, the students added 100 gum balls of paint to the gum ball machine.
We also did an activity where the students had to pick a hershey kiss with a number on the bottom. They had to then uncover that number on our hundreds chart by counting and using clues.
Here is a serious and goofy picture of our class with their fruit loop necklaces on.
They were excited to get to taste the necklaces!
The last activity we did was an experiment with tootsie pops. We estimated whether it would take more or less than 100 licks to get to the center of a tootsie pop. We made it to 105 and we weren't even close to the middle! We discovered that it was definitely MORE than 100 licks.
Up to 105, we documented our licks by using tally marks. One tally mark for each lick. We took 5 licks at a time and then documented our tally marks.
"We are 100 days smarter!"
Thanks for stopping by! Have a great week!
Mrs. Brittany Garrabrant
