Even though this week was very hot, we were busy in Kindergarten! The students have been working so hard and we are finally establishing a normal routine. We explored with more materials from our science and engineering areas as well as math and literacy manipulatives. We made our names from ripped paper, came up with our class promise, made our portfolio covers, drew self-portraits, and enjoyed popsicles this week. Take a look at some of the pictures below!
Here are the students exploring with some of the materials from our science & engineering areas.
Here are the students exploring letter tiles. Lily made her first name and began making her last name as well. We learned how to spell Red this week through our color word song and Madie spelled it with tiles below. Ask your child to sing the song for you!
Phoenix & Isaac spelled their names as well.
The students also used pieces to make numbers.
We also talked about the difference between "quality work" and "yuck work". We discussed how to draw our self-portrait using appropriate shapes, colors and proportions. These pictures will go in their portfolios that you will take home at the end of the year.
I used a silver sharpie to write the students names on black paper. They traced the letters with their fingers and named each letter. Then they ripped construction paper into tiny pieces and glued them on top of the letters. Some friends made a rainbow of colors on their letters, some made a pattern, some used one color and others used random colors. They all turned out great. Here are some of the pictures!
The students wrote their name on their portfolio covers and shaded them to make them beautiful. We discussed doing their best work because this would be on their portfolio that they would be taking home with them. They all did a great job!
As a class we came up with a class promise. Things that we promised to do in our classroom and our school in order to help us be successful. Every student signed their name on a poster that we will display next to our class promise in order to represent our agreement to follow these guidelines.
We promise to...
Although we enjoyed playing outside this week, it was very hot! Every day after recess, we took some time to cool off and got sprays of water with my spray fan.
I brought in popsicles this week and due to our huge amount of popsicle donations we were able to have some every day to cool us down!
Saturday was my birthday so I brought in popsicles Friday for my birthday treat. My mom brought me flowers, a balloon and a cupcake and the students really enjoyed meeting her. They couldn't believe that I had a mommy too!
Thanks for stopping by! Check back next week to see what we are up to!
We will be starting our color study and discussing what else the students would like to learn about next. Have a great week and stay cool!
