We had a very busy first week full of 2 days of screening, 2 phase-in phase in days, and open house. I have included some pictures from our open house and our phase-in days. It is going to be a great year and I am looking forward to seeing what topics we will be learning more about!
The third station was a child and family questionnaire for the families to fill out. The fourth station had magnets with my contact information on them for. Each family took one to hang on their refrigerator to easily access my contact information.
Station 5 had a paper on transportation for the families to fill out. Station 6 had a sign up sheet for parent volunteers and helping hands with wish list items that parents could take if they would like to donate to our classroom.
Station 7 had paper and a basket for parents to write well wishes to their child that I will read to the students the first day of school. For station 8, the families completed the classroom scavenger hunt with their children in order to become familiar with various areas around the room.
Station 9 encouraged families to mingle and say hi as well as had mints for the families enjoy-mint in return for their continued involve-mint, commit-mint, and encourage-mint. I also set out school calendars, manuals, scholastic book packets, and school supply packets for families to take one of each.
Here are some pictures of the families completing the scavenger hunt and other stations during our Open House. Thank you to everyone who was able to make it to visit our classroom. If you were not able to make it, I sent home papers with your child. If you did not receive them please let me know and I will send them home.
Our first 2 phase-in days went very well. Half the class came Thursday and the other half came on Friday. We all met in the gym, lined up and waited for the rest of our friends to arrive.
We spent most of our time practicing how to be in Kindergarten and our classroom routines. We learned how to walk in the hallway, be safe on the stairs, hang up our book bags, enter the classroom, make our lunch choices, and what to do for breakfast.
We also took a tour of our school and learned important places and people throughout our building! We learned where our specials will be, where we can find the clinic, playground, lunch room, literacy lab, office, bathrooms, and many more.
These are the great stories we read the first days of school. Ask your child to tell you about these stories!
After we read the Kissing Hand, we learned how to say "I Love You" in sign language.
We also explored with math and literacy manipulatives in order to prepare for our math and literacy workstations. The students used unifex cubes to make patterns and sort by colors.
Wood pieces were used to make letters.
Shapes were used to pictures or sort by color & shape.
The students thought it was really cool that I used water bottle lids to write letters on. They used the letters to make their name or put in ABC order.
The beads were used to sort, make pictures, and count.
We were all smiles by the end of the day even though we were all exhausted!
Thanks for stopping by! Check back next week to see what we are up to.
