We have been so busy in Kindergarten this week! We have continued learning our letters and making our alphabet cards for our word wall. We have also continued to learn about our friends through sharing their Treasure Blocks with the class. We have been working hard on our school rules book, read lots of fun books, learned about literacy lab, had our first Caring Rally & more.
Here are just a few of the awesome stories that we have read in Kindergarten this week!
Treasure Blocks have allowed the students to learn more about their classmates.
This week we learned about Mila, Anes, Tommy, & Alena.
During this time, students practice public speaking, being a whole body listener, building stamina attention span, and how to ask good questions. After each student shares their Treasure Block with the class, I model drawing an illustration of that student based on what they discussed when sharing with the class. You can see my illustration of Mila on the left (Not an illustrator!). I drew her at the park because she said that she likes going to the park. Some of the students used my idea to also draw Mila at the park (picture on the right). We also focused on labeling our friends name on our picture.
Here are a few pictures of the students hard at work on our interactive school rules book.
Here are the pages that we worked on this week.
Here are the letter F & M cards from last. They turned out really great! Right now we are focusing on recognizing and writing uppercase letters. Once we go through the whole alphabet, we will go back and work on lowercase letters.
This week we worked on identifying and writing the letter P. We made a list of things that start with the letter P and drew our pictures to make our letter P card.
On Thursday we went to Literacy Lab for the first time. Ms. Roland taught us about the rules and expectations in her classroom. We will be going to Literacy Lab Monday- Thursday and working with Ms. Roland, Mrs. Arnold, myself and independently. She read "Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?" to the class, then we made our own book. Each student made their own page, and Ms. Roland put them together to make our own class Brown Bear Brown Bear book.
On Friday, Ms. Roland & Mrs. Arnold came and read our finished book to the class. The book will be in our class library for all of the students to be able to enjoy as they would like.
On Friday, we had our first Caring Rally of the school year. West Carrollton incorporates the 42 Developmental Assets and this year we will be focusing on Asset #26, Caring. During this rally, the students learned about the various adults in our building and how they care for them. In the rallies throughout the year, we will be focusing on how to care for ourselves, others, our school, and our community.
Mrs. Boyd's birthday was on Wednesday so she brought in popsicles for the students to enjoy!
Our class Wright State student, Mr. Rice, came to work in our class again on Friday and the students really enjoyed working with him.
We have been working very hard on learning how to spell our color word R-E-D. Ask your child to spell it for you. Here is the song we use if you want to practice with your child at home.
Thanks for stopping by to see what we have been up in our class! Check back again next week to see what other cool things we have been up to.
Have a great week!
Mrs. Brittany Garrabrant
