We had another fun and busy week here in Kindergarten! The students worked hard on the reading portion of the iReady diagnostic, got to play in the snow, worked on a 5 senses Christmas book, holiday writing and reading activities, worked on how we are PAX leaders, earned a class reward and more! Take a look below to find out details on our week!
I hung up the gingerbread boys & girls that the students made last week in the hallway and they look beautiful!
Before we took the iReady reading diagnostic test on Monday, we discussed how the students were going to do their best and they wrote about it. Here are some of their answers.
The students really took their time on the diagnostic and did a great job!
On Monday, we went outside for a short recess so the students could play in the snow before it melted! They had so much fun making snowballs and having snowball fights!
Mrs. Boxley & my grandma (Mrs. Solich) came to help the students work on a 5 senses Christmas book. The students enjoyed working on this book and they turned out so cute!
For what Christmas looks like, the students used glitter glue to make the lights and sequins for ornaments.
For Christmas smells like, the students crushed up candy canes and glued them on the paper, For Christmas feels like, students glued cotton balls on Santa's beard.
The students painted gingerbread men and sprinkled cinnamon on it for Christmas feels like page.
We glued a bell on Rudolph's nose for Christmas sounds like.
They came up with some really funny and creative ideas. Here are some of them!
We also did an activity after we read the story The Mitten. The students got to design their own mitten and write about what could fit in their mitten.
Here is my example as well as some of their responses.
A Hedgehog could fit in Laylah's mitten.
A person could fit in Gracie's mitten.
A dog could fit in Cwenlee's mitten.
A giant could fit in Van's mitten.
We also began working on simple "I like" sentences. Below you can see the students wrote that they like mom, winter, flowers, and snow.
Laylah read a story at the board meeting on Thursday and I was so proud of her hearing her read with such confidence!
Our PAX coach, Ms. Phillip came back this week and we discussed how we were continuing to be PAX leaders in the classroom. The students wrote how they were being PAX leaders and I will make their responses into a book.
We also worked hard on coloring a holiday book using color words.
We shared our 5 senses book & Green Light, Green Light with our Preschool Reading Buddies.
Our Teach Town lesson this week was Know When to Take a Break.
The students have earned all of the buckeyes and have now earned a whole class reward! They chose to have a PJ & Hot Chocolate Day so we will be celebrating this coming Friday while we watch Polar Express.
Thanks for stopping by! Have a great week!
Mrs. Brittany Garrabrant
