Groundhog's Day, Preparing for the 100th Day of School, Etc.

It was our first full week in a while and it was a busy one!! It was full of fun and learning. We worked hard in literacy lab, started writing in our Book about 100 and made our '100 glasses' to get ready for our 100th Day of School in a couple weeks, did some Groundhog's Day and Valentine's activities, shared our work with our Preschool Reading Buddies, worked very hard on our iReady lessons & more! Take a look below to find out more.

Mrs. Arnold worked with students on beginning sounds.
Students also worked on their iReady literacy lessons.
In the listening center, the students listened to The Three Billy Goats Gruff. Afterwards, they cut out the pictures from the story and glued them in sequential order.
Ms. Roland worked with students on rhyming and sounding out words.
I worked with students on guided reading and vocabulary words.
The two words we focused on this week were: extra and bring.
We began working on writing in our Book about 100 this week to get ready for our 100th day of school in a couple of weeks. We wrote about what they could lift 100 of, what they wished they had 100 of and what they wouldn't want 100 of. We will continue to work on the rest of the pages in our book before our 100th day.

The students also made glasses shaped like the number 100 that they will be wearing on the
100th day of school!
Groundhog's Day was Friday and before we found out if the groundhog saw his shadow, the students predicted whether they thought he would or not. After they made their own prediction, they surveyed their classmates as well. More students thought he would see his shadow!
We colored a book for Valentine's Day by reading our color words.
We read a couple of books to learn about Groundhogs as well.
Friday morning, we watched the video to find out that the Groundhog, Punxsutawney Phil, did see his shadow and there will be 6 more weeks of winter.
We wrote about what we saw. We wrote "The Groundhog saw his shadow".
We shared our Groundhog's Day writing & the Valentine's book the students colored with our Preschool Reading Buddies.
Here you can see the students doing a "Granny's Wacky Prize" for beating the timer in PAX. This prize was making funny faces!
We also began working on giving each other Tootleoos, which are compliments to help build our classroom community.
Mrs. Boxley helped the students put their handprints on a Valentine's Day poem that will be going in their portfolios.
They also worked on making special Valentine's to take home on Valentine's Day as well!
Our Teach Town lesson was Try Again When You Make a Mistake. This was our last Teach Town lesson and we will be going back through the lessons again to refresh for the rest of the year.
Other papers sent home this week:
Box Tops Collection Paper
Information Paper on our Valentine's Day Celebration
February Homework
February Reading Log
We read books about Groundhogs and Valentine's Day.
.
We have set a 2 week goal for passing 100 lessons on iReady and the students are working towards earning a pajama party.
This week the students passed 56 lessons so they are well on their way to meeting their goal!
Thanks for checking in! Stop by again next week!

Have a great week!
Mrs. Garrabrant
