We had a very busy week in Kindergarten! We celebrated Valentine's Day, prepared for and celebrated the 100th Day of School, discussed the olympics, wrote Tootles to each other and more! Take a look below to see more details about our fun week!
We worked hard in Literacy Lab this week! Mrs. Arnold worked with students on writing upper & lowercase letters and beginning sounds.
Students also worked hard on their iReady lessons.
In the listening center, students listened to the story "Three Little Pigs". Then they drew and wrote about their favorite part.
I work with students on guided reading and vocabulary. We worked on the vocabulary word 'begin' this week and students wrote sentences using the word. Then they shared their work with the class.
We also worked on a Valentine book where the students had to draw pictures to match the words and even fill in the blanks about things they love.
We have been talking a lot about the olympics and watching videos of the athletes competing. The students have been enjoying the games so far and can't wait to learn more! We did these olympic worksheets this week as well. The students had to color the picture using the key for each letter.
We discussed the different athletes and sports that happen in the Winter Olympics.
Here is another paper that the students had to color by reading the color words.
In order to get ready for Valentine's Day, the students decorated bags to keep their Valentine's in.
Students also shared their collection of 100 items with the class. They shared their clues while their bags were in the bucket so no one could see what was in them. Then the other students had to guess what they thought their collections were. They really enjoyed this activity!
While students were passing out their Valentines, they were busy working on various Valentine's Day activities. They sorted and graphed candy hearts.
They also made patterns by coloring candy hearts and matched uppercase letters to their lowercase letters.
Mrs. Boxley's birthday was also on Tuesday and she brought in homemade rice crispy treats shaped like hearts for the students and they loved them!
Mrs. Boxley helped students pass out their Valentines during our celebration.
Some students brought in their own boxes and some even made their own!
Our class earned a class reward in Art Class and this week Mrs. Learner taught them about Mardi Gras, made masks, and had a dance party! They had so much fun!
We also worked on counting and coloring for our 100th Day of School book.
For our PAX lesson this week, the students worked on writing Tootles for each other. Every student got a tootle and they all shared with the class why they wrote a Tootle for that person. They were so excited to get Tootled!
Our friend Lilliana even got a Tootle from one of our Preschool teachers, Mrs. Warner for being kind on the playground!
The district asked teachers for examples of students helping out or doing something kind and posted it on the Facebook page on Friday in celebration of the 100th day of school. Take a look at their explanation as well as our friends Laylah & Kayla who were mentioned!
Also for the 100th day of school, I used an app called Old Fart Booth to age the students into what I thought they would look like at 100 years old. Take a look below! The pictures will go into their portfolios. They enjoyed when I showed them all of their pictures.
I even did Mrs. Boxley & myself as well!
The 100th day of school was on Friday! We had such a fun day full of so many fun activities.
Mrs. Sheaf, Mrs. Keck & I dressed up as old women for the 100th day of school!
Me with the other students in the class who dressed up as well. Their costumes were awesome!
"We are 100 days smarter".
We worked on another counting to 100 book.
Also, cutting and gluing numbers in order by tens.
We watched a video of people in order from ages 1-100 and discussed what they noticed about people as they get older (wrinkles, grey/white hair, glasses, etc.).
Then the students picked the oval that matched their skin color in order to make a self portrait of themselves as 100 year olds.
They glued on cotton balls for hair and mustaches/beards for boys. I forgot to get pictures of their finished products but they turned out so cute and will also be going into their portfolios!
The students rotated classes to visit Ms. Sheaf, Mrs. Gore & Mrs. Myers classes while I worked with the students in those classes. Thank you to Aiden's mom for coming to volunteer and helping out with this! Here is a picture of me with students in Mrs. Gore's class dressed up.
Ms. Sheaf worked with students to make different pictures using the numbers in 100.
Here are some of their examples.
Mrs. Gore worked with students to play a game called Race to 100 where you roll a dice and count that number until you get to 100.
In Mrs. Myers class, students worked on building with 100 of various items.
I sent home a snack shaped like the number 100 on Friday for you to enjoy with your child while they told you about our fun and exciting day!
We finished reading the book Mr. Popper's Penguins so Tuesday we will be watching the movie in order to compare it to the book!
We read lots of books about Valentine's Day.
Important papers sent home this week:
Information about our "Hero" collection to raise money for cancer. We had a preschool student at our school diagnosed with cancer as well as our secretary's husband so we are raising money to help those Heroes! We will be collecting money all week!
Thanks for checking in! Stop back to see what we are up to next week.
Don't forget we will be having our Pajama day this coming Friday!
Have a great week!
