We had another busy week in Kindergarten! We worked hard on our writing skills, in our Reader's notebooks and other phonics skills, as well as in Literacy Lab. Students worked on more pages from our Christmas book about 5 senses, practiced and performed in our Christmas program, and worked on their Christmas presents for their families. They read to their preschool reading buddies, earned a scooter party, and more! Take a look below for more details on our awesome week.
In writing, students worked on adding details to their pictures as well as adding labels about their drawings.
We also read the story "The Mitten". Then the students designed their own mitten and wrote about what could fit in their mitten. I loved seeing their creative answers! These will go in their portfolios.
We also did a "This or That" writing activity. Students had to choose a gingerbread boy or girl, cut it out, and write about it. These turned out very cute as well!
Our Journeys Focus Wall for the week.
In our reader's notebook, students worked on practicing our sight word 'to' and our letter sounds for the week.
We also learned about wheels this week.
Students counted the correct number of objects, found the right number word and wrote it in the sentence.
Students earned their letter P & Q books.
We made a list of things that begin with the letters, students drew pictures and we made them into letter cards for our alphabet wall.
We worked hard in Literacy Lab! Students worked with me on guided reading, answering questions about the text, letter sound sorts, and sight words.
Students also worked independently on letter sound picture sorts, matching upper/lowercase letters, and practicing writing letters.
Students worked with Mrs. Ball on letters, letter sounds, and reading.
Of course they worked hard on their iReady lessons!
For Fun Friday in Literacy Lab, students worked on practicing rhyming.
Writing letters as well as reading and coloring color words correctly.
Matching the correct uppercase & lowercase letters.
In our classroom, students also worked on making a rainbow mosaic since we have learned all of our color words!
Reviewing the sight word 'like'.
Working on iReady lessons.
Mrs. Boxley worked with students on the page in their 5 senses Christmas book to crush up candy canes and glue them on for the tastes like page.
They also glued cotton balls on Santa's beard for the feels like page.
Our Kindergarten Christmas program.
Tuesday afternoon, all of the Kindergarten students practiced together in the gym.
Thursday morning, we all went over to the High School to practice up on the stage.
The students loved it and did a great job! They couldn't wait to sing for you all Thursday evening!
Thanks to everyone who came out to support our Kindergarten Christmas Program, they did awesome!
Students worked hard on decorating their Christmas presents to their families.
Students shared their letter Q book as well as their Mitten writing paper with their Preschool Reading Buddies.
Since we met our iReady goal for lessons passed over the last 2 weeks, students earned a scooter party. They were so excited! We did races, laps around the gym, and freestyle.
Everyone had a great time!
