As always, we had another busy week here in Kindergarten! We earned the Cafeteria trophy, worked on our writing skills including some fun holiday activities! We made gingerbread boys/girls, worked in our Reader's Notebooks, and focused on the letter Ii. Students took the iReady diagnostic, finished their Christmas book about 5 senses, shared their Christmas wish lists with their preschool reading buddies while enjoying hot chocolate together. I worked with students on updating their ESGI data with what they know, we finished reading Charlie & the Chocolate Factory and began watching the movie, and Mrs. Donson had her last day with us. Take a look below for more details on our week!
Mrs. Oda's class delivered the Cafeteria trophy to our class. We have displayed it outside our classroom all week and we will be delivering it to the next class that won on Monday!
We worked hard on our writing skills this week! For our second quarter assessment, students drew a picture of something with wheels and labeled 3 different parts of their picture. These will be going in their portfolios but I will be sending copies home with report cards so you can see what writing stage your student is at.
Another writing activity we did this week was another this or that. Students chose 'snow cream' or hot chocolate. They cut out the picture of the one they chose, and wrote about it.
We also read the story The Mitten, colored the pictures and circled our sight words. Students also made a retelling bag for the story but I forgot to get pictures!
We also read a Christmas light book. Students had to read the color words in order to color the Christmas lights correctly.
We also made Gingerbread boys/girls by following directions. I will hang them in the hallway with our Gingerbread Glyph so people can see their gingerbread boys/girls.
Students also worked hard in their Reader's Notebooks. We reviewed our sight words, and letter sounds that we have worked on.
We also focused on using adjectives to describe the size and shape of objects.
We worked on the sounds that the vowel Ii makes, made a list, and drew pictures to create our letter Ii card. It turned out great!
Students worked so hard to take both their reading & math diagnostics on iReady this week. We discussed taking your time and trying your best! I was proud of them!
Students finished their Christmas 5 senses book. They painted a gingerbread man and added cinnamon to make it smell very good!
They colored the pictures of Santa & Rudolph in their pages.
Here are pictures of each of the completed pages. Their books turned out so good, I hope you enjoyed looking at them as well!
During stations, students worked with me to practice the sight words 'brown' and 'the'.
Students also surveyed their peers on how old they are and graphed it.
Students finished our rainbow mosaic. I forgot to take a picture of it up on the wall but I will take a picture of all of our completed color mosaics for next week's post!
Students worked on documenting their Christmas Wish List and sharing it with their Preschool Reading Buddies.
Afterwards, we enjoyed some hot chocolate with our Reading Buddies to celebrate all of our hard work this week!
Students also completed their Christmas presents to their families.
I will post more about these including pictures in next week's post after I send them home. Be looking for those coming home this week!
Students also worked with me to show me what they know and update their data in our ESGI program. I will be sending this information home along with their report cards.
Mrs. Donson's last day was Thursday! She was amazing and we will miss her so much!! I really enjoyed working with her and the students adored her. She promised to come back and visit!
We finished reading Charlie & the Chocolate Factory and we began watching the movie. We will finish it next week.
Important papers sent home this week:

Thanks for stopping by. Check back next week to see what we are up to for our last week before winter break!
