Here are some pictures from November 9th before we went back to virtual learning for 2 weeks before Thanksgiving Break.
Students drew a stick of another student in our class and drew a tootle for them.
We worked in our math workbooks on counting and making numbers.
We enjoyed playing outside in the nice weather!
We went on a nature walk around our playground and documented what we saw, smelled, felt and heard. We ended up having to make our class thankful turkey virtually but then I hung it up in our classroom to remind us of everything we are thankful for!
We came back from Thanksgiving Break ready to learn and work hard!
We discussed what we were thankful for and the students all made their own individual thankful turkeys.
In Literacy Lab, students followed directions and colored the feathers of the turkey different colors.
Since we didn't get to do Thanksgiving workstations before break, I mixed some Thanksgiving and Christmas workstations together. Take a look below to learn more about our workstations.
Students had to roll the dice and color the matching number.
Counting the turkeys feathers and writing the matching number.
Cutting out and gluing the shapes next to their matching shapes.
Naming holiday foods and sorting them based on how many syllables they have.
Students read the color words and find the matching feathers.
Then they color the turkeys the correct color.
Students match the shapes to make snowmen.
Figuring out how many syllables different words have and coloring the appropriate number.
Sounding out words and writing the beginning letter.
Matching mittens with pictures that rhyme.
Feeding letters and sight words to the penguin.
Students read the number on each pumpkin pie and put the matching number of cotton balls (drops of cool whip).
Coloring the turkey feathers to make patterns.
We worked hard in our math workbook on position words (above, below, beside/next to).
And in our Reader's Notebooks on our sight words and letter sounds.
During writing time, students drew pictures about things they like to do in the winter.
I also sent home a December reading log. Each time you read 15 minutes with your child, have them color a gingerbread man in. Have your child turn in their completed reading log signed by an adult by this Friday, 12/18 and they will get to choose a prize from our treasure box!
Every Thursday I will send home a packet of work along with this cover letter to give you more information for expectations for our virtual days on Fridays.
Last week, students were so excited that our class won the cafeteria trophy!
We got to hang it up outside of our classroom for the week to celebrate!
Students worked hard to make an addition snow globe. They colored come snowflakes blue and left some white. Then they had to write an addition number sentence to match their snow globe.
They loved making these!
For writing, we talked about how writers can write about anything! We made a list of things they know about in our light bulbs and we put them in their writing folders to help them think of ideas during writing time. Then students chose something from their light bulb to draw a picture of.
In Literacy Lab, students worked hard on their diagnostic assessments in both reading and math.
I will be sending their updated scores home this week.
We also made name Christmas trees.
In Library/Computer Lab, students made a Rudolph hat with Ms. Shari.
Students made really cool snowflakes like these in art class as well!
We focused on our 2-D shapes (circle, square, triangle, rectangle, hexagon) in our math workbook this week.
We practiced reading lots of books and papers about winter this week. We also learned about our letter of the week: Qq and our sight words come & me.
Tuesday was picture day! We will let you know when they are uploaded and what you need to do if you would like to order prints of your child's pictures.
We finished reading the book Charlotte's Web so we watched the movie to compare.
The students really enjoyed the book and loved watching the movie!
They also got to take home their Christmas ornaments this week!
They worked so hard on them and they turned out so cute, I hope you like them!
I also bought a book for each student, wrote a message inside the front cover, and wrapped them so they could open them! Merry Christmas!
We enjoyed playing outside this week as well! Make sure your child is wearing winter coats and brings a hat and gloves to school. We will be going outside as long as it is above 32 degrees outside! The students love watching the construction going on for our new school!
This week we are having a Holiday Spirit Week! Here are the details if you would like to participate!
Have a great week!
Thanks for checking in. Stop back next week to see what we are up to next!
