We had a wonderful week back from Spring Break. We have so many fun things that we are working on and coming up as well! Take a look below to see more about what we are learning about!
Our focus wall for the week.
Our class won the Library/Computer Lab trophy this week and we were very proud to display it all week! Now we get to pass it off to Mrs. Vogt's class tomorrow!
As always, we worked very hard to practice our sight words this week.
Next week is a review week so no new sight words!
We worked hard in our Reader's Notebook to practice our sight words as well as other literacy skills this week.
Of course we played our sight word spinner game! The word 'there' won!
For our math lessons, we finished up our subtraction chapter of our math workbook.
We will continue to practice subtraction for a while to make sure we understand it.
We finished up our animal book and I sent it out to be published on Friday. I can't wait until we get it back in about a month or so. The students are so proud of their work and will definitely want to share it with you so I am working on a way to make that happen!
Group pictures for our book.
The students all signed the meet the author page (the very last page of our book).
The finished cover of our book (left) and the meet the authors page (right).
We have continued to learn about animals and the students love it! I showed them this video of a chameleon changing colors as they put different color glasses in front of him and they thought it was so cool!
They also used various animal writing prompts to write about different things such as "If I were as big as an elephant...."
We are also planning a fun activity with Miss Riggs class this week. Students made butterflies and camouflaged them around our classroom. Miss Riggs class will come to our room and see if they can find them. We will then go to their room and see if we can find their butterflies.
We also did a fun science experiment with jelly beans. We put them on a plate and added water but before we did I explained what was going to happen and students made a prediction about what they think would happen. After we watched what happened, they documented what actually happened.
They thought this was very cool!
We also did a fun Easter craft as well. Students used a white crayon to make a design on their egg and then used water color to paint them and they turned out so cute!
As always, students worked very hard in Literacy Lab!
Working on their reading iReady lessons.
Students worked independently to practice sight words and other literacy activities.
Students worked with Mrs. Ball to practice sight words, guided reading, and color words.
I worked with students on making word ladders, blend sorts, guided reading, and reading comprehension.
Mrs. Phillip came to do a lesson with the class on peer pressure, making good choices, and saying "no" when necessary.
We also started new workstations for April.
We started reading our new chapter book together "James and the Giant Peach".
So far the students are really enjoying it!
My mom, Miss Solich, came to work with the students on planting flowers. We will be growing these flowers in our classroom over the next few weeks! Students will take care of them, observe them grow, and document what they are noticing.
We will be watering them every few days!
And documenting what they notice. Evina wrote, "There are no flowers. It is just soil. It will sprout in 5 days." (that is what the package said!)
"There was soil."
On Friday, we noticed that about half of our plants had sprouts and we were so excited!
Some of them even have multiple sprouts!
"I have one sprout!"
On Friday, our music teacher Mrs. Whiteford organized for the middle school band to come put on a little show for the students. They haven't gotten to do many performances and they enjoyed getting to show the Kindergarteners what they have been working so hard on. Our class was a great audience!
We also enjoyed getting to play outside this week and the nice warm weather!
We brought out some sidewalk chalk!
We really love getting to watch the progress of our new school being built!
