We had such a fun week full of so many exciting things! Take a look below for more details on our week.
Our focus wall for the week.
We practiced our sight words by watching sight word videos, practicing spelling and recognizing them, completing color by sight word papers and other worksheets about them, and reading books with the sight words in them. The students are sight word pros!
We also worked hard in our Reader's notebook to practice sight words, review the letters for this week and figure out the correct word that matches the picture by sounding out.
Of course we played our sight word spinner game, a class favorite! The sight word 'just' won!
We continued to practice subtraction and we even mixed up addition and subtraction problems and we had to pay close attention so we didn't get tricked!
We did a fun science experiment called "walking water". We set it up and the students predicted what they thought would happen. Then we waited to see what actually happened!
Then we saw the results, the water "walked" up the paper towel and mixed color in the empty cups to make new colors. The students thought this was so cool! They documented what they noticed.
Also, when we came to school Monday we noticed that our caterpillars had made a chrysalis over the weekend! The students observed what they noticed and then I moved the lid of the cup to our butterfly house so they would have more room when they came out.
When I moved them to the butterfly house, one of them started shaking and the students thought it was so interesting!
We documented what we saw in our butterfly life cycle book.
"They made chyrsalis!"
"Over the weekend, our caterpillars made a chrysalis."
"Today the caterpillars turned to a chrysalis!"
On Monday, the program "Shoes for the Shoeless" came to visit our school and gave EVERY child in our school a new pair of socks and shoes. They fit them to find out their shoe size and let them pick out their brand new pair of shoes! The shoes were so nice and the students were so grateful to the volunteers for helping them!
We were so excited to be able to make thank you cards for them and someone will be delivering them to the company for their volunteers!
As always, we worked hard in Literacy Lab this week as well. Students worked with me on guided reading, reading comprehension and sight word games.
We worked hard on our iReady lessons as well!
Students worked independently on various sight words and reading activities.
Mrs. Ball worked with students on guided reading, color words, and sight words.
Mrs. Phillip came to do a lesson with the class on food/house materials safety. We talked about things that are safe to eat/drink and things that are not (like cleaners, etc.).
Thursday was Earth Day and to celebrate, we read some fiction and non-fiction stories about the earth.
We also talked about the plant life cycle and put it in order.
We read an Earth Day book and talked about how we could help take care of our Earth.
"I would plant flowers."
"Clean up after our pets."
On Thursday, we started our End of the Year Alphabet Countdown! This means that we only had 26 days of school left, crazy! Everyday we will be documenting in our Kindergarten Memories book what activity we do that day for that letter. The first couple of pages are all about me pages so we did those earlier in the week to get ready.
Monday for our A day, we exchanged autographs. Students went around to all of their classmates and had them sign their autograph book, they enjoyed this!
We wrote about it for our A page.
Friday was our Letter B day. We did a butterfly craft using 2 coffee filters, markers, and a pipe cleaner. They enjoyed this craft and they turned out so cute!
On Friday, our class was chosen for the first ever Team Tootle Treat. A class with good behavior is chosen to enjoy a special treat. Mrs. Schieman came to bring us our treat (fruit snacks) and she surprised us with spraying silly string everywhere!
I was so proud of them for being the first class chosen, they are awesome PAX Leaders!
We continued to read our chapter book together, James and the Giant Peach. We are getting close to the end! Ask your child to tell you about what is happening in the book.
We also continued to read more animal books to learn more animal facts, they love animals!
We have also continued to take care of our plants and they are getting so tall!
They will be getting to take them home soon!
We also started working on different things for Mother's Day, shhhh!
We were glad to get outside and play for recess, even if it was colder this week!
Next week is supposed to be warmer!
Our friend Rhys was chosen as one of the school Tootle prize winners this week, great job Rhys!
Thanks for stopping by this week to see what we have been up to.
Check back next week to see what fun things we are up to next!
