We had another busy week in Kindergarten! We were busy working on literacy skills in Literacy Lab, preparing for our Friendship Feast, enjoying time with family & friends at our Friendship Feast, made Thank You notes for those who helped with our feast, had another feast with our leftovers, observing animal visitors, shared with our reading buddies, learned two new letters and a new color word, and read books about Thanksgiving.
In Literacy Lab, the students worked on literacy skills with iReady.
Mrs. Arnold worked with them on letter identification and formation.
Mr. N. was subbing for Mrs. Roland and working with the students on beginning letter sounds.
In the Listening Station, the students listened to Pete the Cat I Love My White Shoes then made their own Pete the Cat craft.
I worked with students on reading 2 turkey books and following the directions to hide the turkey different places and color the turkey different colors.
Ms. Rose helped the students in our class & Mrs. Myers class to decorate our banner for our Friendship Feast. We decorated the letters in the word 'welcome' & Mrs. Myers friends decorated the letters in the word 'friends'. All of the students in both classes put their handprint around the banner along with their names too. It turned out so beautiful and was a great welcome to our feast!
We also made beautiful decorative 'Thankful Turkeys'. First the students had to cut out the feathers.
Then they used water colors to paint them.
The students wrote what they were thankful for and we put it in the middle of their turkey.
We also made place mats as decoration for our feast. The students illustrated what they were thankful for, we glued it on colored construction paper, and I laminated them. They were decorations at our feast and then the students got to take them home!
We spent time practicing our Thankful Song for our feast both with and without Mrs. Myers class.
Below you can see pictures from our Friendship Feast. Thank you to everyone who came and for your wonderful generosity, we had so much yummy food! The decorations all looked beautiful and we had a wonderful time with family and friends! Our class made the pine cone turkeys for the tables you can see below and Mrs. Myers class made the pumpkin bags.
Mrs. Myers class made directed drawing turkeys.

Our Thankful song.
A big thank you to Mrs. Myers for all of her help! Everyone had a great time!
On Friday, we had a visit from a lady who works with the Dayton Metroparks. She came to talk about how we need to take care of animals and their homes around us. She brought JJ the snake and Myrtle the turtle to share with the students. She talked about what each animal needs and how we can be scientists by observing and touching them gently. The students were very brave in observing and touching the snake even though so of them were very nervous about it!!
We shared our Brown color book and letter K books with our Preschool Reading Buddies.
We made thank you cards for Ms. Tina who donated and cooked the turkey for our feast as well as Ms. Juda & Mr. Dwaine who helped set up and clean up. All of the kids from both classes signed their names in order to say thanks for all of their hard work to make our feast so wonderful!
Since you were all so wonderful and brought so much food, we were able to have a feast during school with all of the leftover food on Friday! This was amazing because the students who weren't able to join us Thursday evening could still participate. We went down to Mrs. Myers classroom and enjoyed food as we watched the Charlie Brown Thanksgiving movie. The students really enjoyed it!
Beginning when we get back from break, our friend Kevin will be moving to Mrs. Addington's class. We will miss him so much and the students all wanted to line up and give him a hug!
Our Teach Town lesson for the week was How to Join Friends During Playtime.
Here are the 3 letter cards from the last blog post that I forgot to include pictures for.
This week, we worked on Letter Y & K.
We are getting very close to having our alphabet wall finished!
The students earned their letter Y & K books as well as their brown color book.
We read a couple books about Thanksgiving, discussed what is means to be thankful and what we are thankful for.
Thanks for stopping by and have a wonderful break!
Mrs. Brittany Garrabrant
