We had another busy and fun week here in Kindergarten! We worked hard in Literacy Lab, continued to observe our caterpillars in their chrysalis', played the PAX Good Behavior Game, began our End of the Year Alphabet Countdown and completed the letters A-D. We also received our poetry books and earned some rewards! Take a look below for more details!
In Literacy Lab, students worked with me on reading the story "Tails" about different animal tails. Then the students wrote about their favorite part.
"This story made me think about when I saw a big goldfish."
"This story made me think about when I saw a goldfish."
I also discussed these vocabulary words. I forgot to get pictures of their work for pile.
"I cover myself with blankets." & "I cover my dogs."
Students in the listening center listened to the story "The Little Red Hen" and wrote about their favorite part.
Students also worked hard on their iReady lessons!
Mrs. Ogletree worked with students on guided reading & rhyming words.
The students observed as the caterpillars went into their chrysalis.
We documented our observations in our butterfly book.
"The chrysalis is hanging. The caterpillars made the chrysalis."
"The caterpillar is in the chrysalis. He is upside down."
When I was moving the chrysalis's after school, one of them started shaking. This is how they protect themselves from predators. When I showed the video to the students, they got so excited!
They might be butterflies by the time we come back on Monday! Before we left Friday, we put some sugar water and oranges inside our butterfly house for food when they come out.
We also read some book about butterflies!
We practiced playing the PAX Good Behavior Game as well. Mrs. Phillip came and taught us how to play the mystery and secret friend PAX game as well!
We earned lots of Granny's Wacky Prizes: On the left students are walking backwards and the others are students sitting backwards in their chairs.
We began our End of the Year Alphabet Countdown this week and completed the letters A-D. Students are documenting every day in their Alphabet Memories book.
We completed a page about our school in Kindergarten as well as a page all about them.
For A day, students collected their peers autographs in their autograph book.
Then they wrote about it in their Alphabet Memories books.
Letter B day was bubbles & wear Blue. We played with bubbles in the beautiful weather 2 days this week! Then we documented in our book.
Letter D day, we used chalk on the playground.
For Letter D day, we had a dance party! Merylin brought in a CD from Descendents 2 and we danced to some songs from it, thanks for sharing!
Students shared their butterfly book and a sight word book with their Preschool Reading Buddy.
Mrs. Boxley helped students make their handprints which I will use to make a new bulletin board. Be looking for that next week! Students traced their hands, cut them out and then decorated them however they wanted to.
Here are just a few of their completed hands.
On Friday, we received our Poetry Books from Student Treasures! They were so excited to open the box! They will not fit in their book bags so I will keep them at school until our Poetry Cafe/End of the Year Celebration where I will hand them out if you ordered a copy.
If you did not order a copy, I put a copy of the paper below in your child's book bag, it is your last opportunity to order one!
The students earned enough compliments as a class and they chose their reward to be a popcorn party so I will be bringing in popcorn for them on Tuesday!
They also completed more than our goal of iReady lessons over the last 2 weeks and wanted to have popsicles for their reward so we will be enjoying those on Monday.
Important papers sent home this week:
Information about shirts for Field Day
Important information about lunch charges that take effect Tuesday.
Thanks for checking in. Come back next week to see what we are up to next!
Have a great week!
Mrs. Brittany Garrabrant
