Even with a QPT Day this week, we had so much fun and learning! We worked hard in Literacy Lab, made get well cards for a friend, played the PAX Good Behavior Game, finished writing our poems and shipped everything out for our poetry book through Student Treasures! We have also been learning about caterpillars, shared our work with our Preschool Reading Buddies, finished reading 101 Dalmatians, and enjoyed playing outside in the beautiful weather.
Take a look below for more details on our fun week!
In Literacy Lab, students worked with me to read the story "Nests, Nests, Nests".
Afterwards, they made connections to the story and wrote about them. Here are a few of their connections.
They also worked hard on their iReady lessons.
In the listening area, they listened to the story "Sheep in a shop" and wrote about their favorite part.
Mrs. Ogletree worked with students on rhyming words, sounding out words, and guided reading.
Mrs. Arnold worked with students on sounding out words, sight words, and guided reading.
Our friend Jaelynn had surgery on Friday to have her tonsils taken out so the students wanted to make her get well cards to read while she is recovering. We discussed what they might write and they really enjoyed making them for her.
On Tuesday we were supposed to have a Fire Safety program but as they were doing their introduction, they got called to leave for a fire. They will be rescheduling to come back this week so look for an update about that in the next blog post!
As you all know Mrs. Hall left for retirement so Mr. Whitacre has been filling in for the remainder of the school year. He came to read a story to the class called "A Caterpillar's Wish".
The students enjoyed listening to him read to them.
Thursday, Mrs. Phillip came to do our PAX lesson and teach us how to play the Good Behavior Game. Students were working on subtraction worksheets and competing as tables to try to have the least amount of "spleems" or inappropriate behaviors such as talking, disrupting others, getting out of seats, etc. As long as the tables have 3 or less spleems, they get to earn a "Granny's Wacky Prize".
We played the game 2 times and both times, every table earned the prize!
The students Granny's Wacky Prize was getting to use their pencils as drum sticks and they loved it!
Students worked SO hard this week to finish writing their poems and drawing their pictures for our poetry book. After school on Thursday, I shipped everything out to Student Treasures and we will be getting our books back in a couple of weeks! Everything turned out so amazing and we can't wait to share it all with you at our Poetry Cafe in May!
The final page of our Poetry Book was a Meet the Authors page.
Here are just a few of the students poems as a sneak peek!!
We received caterpillars in jars this week. We will be observing to see how they change and watch them change into butterflies!
We will be documenting along the way what they are noticing about them in our Butterfly Observation Book.
"The Caterpillars are crawling. And they are in cups."
"The caterpillars are growing bigger. They are eating."
"The caterpillars are eating their food."
"The caterpillars they have 16 feet. They are crawling."
"He is eating food. He is getting bigger."
"The caterpillars are eating. The caterpillars are climbing. The caterpillars have kids so they don't climb out. The caterpillars are gray. The caterpillars have 16 legs. The caterpillars are in a cup."
"The caterpillars are crawling. The caterpillars are eating the food."
"The caterpillars are climbing. The caterpillars are happy."
"The caterpillars are crawling. The caterpillars are small."
"They have 16 legs. They turn into butterflies."
The students shared the poems in their Poetry Journals with their Preschool Reading Buddies.
We finished reading the story 101 Dalmatians this week. We will be watching the movie next week.
We enjoyed playing outside in the beautiful weather this week!
Important papers sent home this week:
Sight Word Paper
Information on Math Night
I forgot to take a picture but students have passed over the amount of iReady lessons they needed to meet our goal of 125 for two weeks so they have earned a reward. They wanted to have another Show and Tell so we will be doing that on Thursday!
Thanks for checking in. Have a great week!
Mrs. Brittany Garrabrant
