We had a great first week back from Spring Break. We were busy and worked very hard! We worked in iReady, learned to write more types of poems, decided on the name, and created the cover & title page for our Student Treasures poetry book. The students also colored a cover page for their Poetry Journal which will have all of their poems in it. They also shared their favorite poems with their Preschool Reading Buddies, worked in new workstations, had a show and tell, and read stories.
Take a look below for more details on our fun week!
In Literacy Lab, the students worked hard on their iReady lessons.
Mrs. Roland is filling in for Mrs. Quick who had her baby for the rest of the year so Mrs. Ogletree will be helping in Literacy Lab. She worked with students on rhyming and sounding out words.
In the Listening Center, students listened to the story, "Curious George" and then wrote about their favorite part.
Students worked with me on reading the story, "Brave Dave and the Dragons". Then they wrote about their favorite part of the story. We also learned about the vocabulary words 'ready' and 'pair'.
The students have really enjoyed learning about and writing various types of poetry.
We learned about 5 senses poems and wrote one about jellybeans.
We also learned about Alphabet poems and wrote our own as well.
We learned about acrostic poems and wrote them about Spring, Music, and Earth.
The students favorite kind of poetry was definitely concrete poems! They loved writing poems in the shape of their favorite things. Take a look at just a few of their concrete poems.
The students voted and they decided they wanted to name our Student Treasures book, "I Love Poetry!". They made a beautiful cover and title page for our book and we dedicated our book to our families as well. Don't forget to send in your order forms if you would like to get a copy. I can't wait to see our finished product.
The students also colored their Poetry Journal covers. All of their poems will be made into a book for them to share with you all at our Poetry Cafe next month.
They also shared their favorite poems with their Preschool Reading Buddies.
We worked on some new workstations this week as well, including surveying their friends about what their favorite pet is, putting together addition puzzles.
Other stations include making a story using story cubes & reading and documenting words found in an egg hunt.
On Tuesday, the students had a show and tell that they earned from passing all of their iReady lessons before Spring Break. They enjoyed sharing their favorite things with their friends!
We read a couple books about plants this week as well as continued to read our 101 Dalmatians book. We only have 5 chapters left!
Important papers sent home this week:
Info on the Prom With Mom Event at Harry Russell
Information about our Fundraiser which is due April 25th.
Thanks for stopping by to see what we were up to this week. Check back again next week to see what fun things we are working on next!
Have a great week!
Mrs. Brittany Garrabrant
