Science Fair & Sports Study Continued

We began the week by making our wire sports figures in art class on Monday. Mrs. Pinto demonstrated how to bend the wire to create stick people who are playing various sports and showing motion. First we made their head and then we made their legs. Mrs. Pinto used a wire cutter to help the students bend their feet to match their sketches and how they would be if they were participating in their specific sports.
The students had to carefully follow directions in order to make their wire look like stick people in motion. They are looking great so far! We still have to finish the arms and details and we will hopefully do that this week.

Isabella is in the gymnastics group and she is making her person doing a flip! I can't wait to see how these turn out when they are completed.
Monday was Dr. Seuss's birthday as well as Read Across America Day. As you know, in order to celebrate these occasions, we had pajama day! We also did a fun activity in literacy lab. We read Green Eggs and Ham. We also got to enjoy "Green Eggs and Ham" (pudding & Oreos).
We added some new sports centers to our workstation time. Below, the students are practicing their small muscles skills by tracing different sports balls, and lines in order to match equipment together.
We also were reading about various sports.
We had to put together sports puzzles and say the sight words that were on the pieces as we did so.
Matching the uppercase letter on the football to the lowercase letter on the clothespin and clipping it on the correct match. Also putting the alphabet footballs in ABC order.
Braxton is working with another football upper and lowercase letter match game.
We began reading the 4th book in our sports fairies series. The students thought it was funny that the fairy has the same first name as me! There are 7 books total in this series and the students really enjoy reading them. Ask them to tell you what is happening in the story, who the characters are, what the setting is, and what their favorite part is,
This week we also had our science fair. We got to go down to the gym during school to explore the different stations and then the students were able to come back that night with their families to share with them what they had learned. Below you can see the students exploring and trying to make tornadoes in the bottles.
There was also a station where they had to guess the smell.
The students got to explore the human body with a figure that had organs to put back in it, as well as looking at bones and x-rays.
They had to use a picture clue to put the bones in the right spot to correctly put the person together.
They chose paint colors, put them in a baggie and mixed them together to experiment with color mixing.
Exploring whether various materials slid or rolled down a ramp. The students made a prediction and then tested it out to see if they were correct.
"Feely Boxes". The students stuck their hand in different boxes and guessed what was in them.
Our station was about exploring the energy transfer from a basketball to a tennis ball when you drop them together. The tennis ball was attached to a cone and the students really enjoyed when it went flying after they hit the ground! A big thank you to Mr. Doyle for helping us put this station together!
 Exploring shadows
Working with magnets. I love Soleil & Alyssa's face when a parent volunteer showed them 2 magnets having negative energy and rejecting the connection. They thought it was awesome! Thank you so much to all of our parent volunteers who were able to come and help out!
We also began creating our clay sports equipment. We were only able to get 3 done this week because they are very time consuming! They are turning out great so far! You can see below Alyssa's football, Sarah's baseball, and Leeland's basketball.

Thanks for stopping by! Have a great week!

Mrs. Brittany Garrabrant
