Friendship Feast, Turkeys & More!

We had another great week here in Kindergarten! We received another class trophy, worked hard on our Journeys curriculum, learned the letter sound for Tt, and learned how to spell the color word 'Brown'. We also worked hard in Literacy Lab and in the classroom on various literacy activities and on our iReady lessons! Students worked on making decorations for our Friendship Feast such as directed drawing of a turkey, pine cone turkeys, and place mats. We also read and completed various take home books and activities about turkeys. Of course we practiced our "Thankful" song in order to perform it at our Feast. We all had a wonderful time at our Friendship Feast with Miss Riggs & Mrs. Myers classes! Then on Wednesday, we had a leftover feast during the school day so all of the students were able to participate. We also made thank you notes, watched the movie Charlotte's Web & more. Take a look below for more details on our fun-filled week!

On Monday morning, Mrs. Oda's class came to deliver the art trophy that we won this week!
The students enjoyed displaying it outside our classroom for the week and we will be passing it on to the next class who won.
Our Journeys focus wall for the week.
Students worked hard in their reader's notebooks this week. They completed pages about our sight word 'we', our letter sounds Aa & Tt, and sensory words.

We made a list of things that begin with the Tt sound, they drew pictures, then we made it into our letter Tt card for our alphabet wall.
Students earned their letter T book to take home as well.
We worked hard to complete our brown mosaic and they also earned their brown books as well.
In Literacy Lab, we read a book about the letter Tt, and read simple guided reading books. Then we completed papers by answering comprehension questions about what we read.
We also did picture sorts for different letter sounds.
Students worked with Mrs. Ball on sorting letters to match uppercase letters to lowercase. They also practiced reading letter books.
Of course they worked hard on their iReady lessons!
At the independent table, students worked on practicing writing sight words, matching and sorting fall words, as well as reading color words and coloring the pictures to match.
During workstations, students worked with me on pages to practice the color word 'Black' and the sight word 'Like'.
We did a directed drawing of a turkey and I went through step by step to tell them what to draw and they followed directions. They could color the background of their picture whatever color they wanted. They turned out awesome and all slightly different!
I displayed these on the walls at our Friendship Feast on Tuesday evening.
Here are a few examples of completed turkeys.

Students finished their place mats for our feast as well.
Students also worked on completing their pine cone turkeys by gluing on googly eyes and feathers. They turned out so cute and we also used them as decorations for our Friendship Feast.
We read lots of stories about turkeys this week. For "Hide Turkey Hide", we read it together and students had to follow directions to glue the turkey in various places on each page.
We also read and completed other turkey books as well!
We also read "I know an old lady who swallowed a pie" & completed a sight word turkey by reading the sight words and color words to color appropriately!
Of course we practiced our "Thankful" song with both Miss Riggs & Mrs. Myers classes so we would be ready to perform it at our Friendship Feast!
The decorations at our Friendship Feast looked amazing!
Our class made the pine cone turkeys, Mrs. Myers class made the paper bag pumpkins & Miss Riggs class made the corn on the end of the tables. Each class created turkey decorations on the walls, individual place mats, and worked in groups to create the table runners on all of the tables as well as our welcome banner. Everything looked so beautiful and festive!
Thank you to everyone who came to our Friendship Feast and helped by bringing so much yummy food! We had an awesome turnout and the food was delicious!
A big thank you to Miss Riggs & Mrs. Myers for an awesome event! We all worked so hard to make it happen and there is no one else I would rather do it with!
A big thank you to my wonderful mother, husband & grandmother who also came out to help with our Friendship Feast. They were a huge help!
Everyone had a wonderful time enjoying family, friends, and food!
The students did such a great job with our "Thankful Song".
On Wednesday, we had a leftover feast in Mrs. Myers class so that all of the students could participate with us. They all enjoyed this very much!
We made thank you notes for Ms. Tina for making our turkey for our feast as well as Ms. Juda for helping to clean up afterwards.
We finished reading the story "Charlotte's Web" this week so we were able to watch the movie and compare them.
Students also surpassed their iReady lessons passed goal for the last 2 weeks so they were able to have extra recess on Friday!
Important papers sent home this week: Home letter about our Journeys weekly lesson.

Information on our Butter Braid fundraiser.
I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving break and enjoy your time with your families!
I will see your students back at school on Monday, November 26th!
