Literacy lab, new student, Mrs. Scheiman reading to us, and more!

We had another fun filled week! We learned more about Pax, had five more friends share their boxes, met a new classmate on Wednesday! Mrs. Schieman came to visit our classroom on Monday as well, she reminded us of cafeteria expectations, as well as read a story to the class. We started normal stations in Literacy Lab as well this week!

On Monday our Pax teacher Mrs. Phillips came and taught us more about Pax. We learned about Pax games such as beat the timer. We also learned about what a "Granny's Wacky Prize" is and how we can earn them!

Our principal, Mrs. Schieman also came to the classroom on Monday to talk to us about cafeteria behavior, and remind us that we are working towards getting the cafeteria trophy to put outside of the room! She also read us one of her favorite books called "The Old Woman Who Named Things". The students enjoyed listening to the story and spending time with her.

We also learned about some friends this week as they shared their treasure boxes with the class!

The students also made a picture of each of our treasure box friends, and we made it into a book that each of the friends could take home.

In literacy lab we worked on the letters m & p. We also continued to work on our I-ready lessons, Mrs. Coberly worked with her groups on recognizing letters as well as sounds. The students had fun playing the different games that Mrs. Coberly had for them!

The students worked on sorting different pictures that started with the letter P and M. The students looked at the different pictures, said the word, and then decided whether the initial sound was /p/ or /m/.

We continued to work on deciding whether something started with the letter P or not on our Capital and Lowercase worksheets that had pictures of things that started with a P and things that did not. The students had to say the word and decide whether it made the /p/ sound or not. If it did they colored it in, if it didn't they either left it white or put an X over it.

We practiced deciding whether words started with the letter M as well using our upper and lowercase worksheets. The students really enjoyed working on these and deciding whether or not the letter started with the /m/ sound.

Students also worked with Mrs. Coberly on the letters and their sounds, determining whether objects started with the same letter or not, and also did a 'M' and 'P' letter book.

The students also played different games where they took turns pulling letters out of a bag and matching it to the correct letter on the game board. The students enjoyed working on this game and taking turns finding the matching letter.

They also worked on matching sets of letters. Students worked in groups and worked on particular letters.

They continued to work on I-Ready on their reading lessons. The students love working on the different lessons and playing the games on I-Ready!

This week in Journey's we learned about Families and what they all have in common. We also continued to work on how to write letters K, L, M, N, and O. We practiced writing the letters, identifying words that start with those letters and finding the letters. We also had our first sight word which was I.

Here was our focus wall for this week!

Here is the weekly letter that I sent home, it lets you know what we are working on each week in journey's.

Our class went to Miss. Riggs' classroom for calendar this week. While Miss. Riggs' was teaching calendar to the students I worked with some students from both of our classrooms on writing our names. The students also practiced learning how to spell the color Yellow in Miss. Riggs' during calendar time this week.

The students worked on making their name using play dough. They had a mat that had their name in bubble letters on it, and with play dough they worked on shaping the different letters in their name.

The students also worked on arranging the letters of their names onto their tree, and once they had the letters in the correct order they were able to glue the pieces down to the paper.

We also earned our yellow and blue books this week! We worked on the color blue last week during calendar, and the color yellow this week in calendar! The students learned how to spell the colors and learned about things that are those colors. They also learned how to sign the colors and different things in the songs.

We also learned what we do in case of a fire on Friday and had a fire drill at the end of the day! The students did a great job of walking out of the school quickly and quietly and staying together so we could get to our safe spot.

To help us practice our sight words I put up a fist bump and say our words sheet by the door when we walk out of the classroom. Each week when we are learning new words I will put up the word we are working on and the students will practice looking at and recognizing the different sight words. They will also practice spelling them. We talked about how to appropriately use the tool, and practiced using it correctly.

I also added all of our names onto our word wall, as well as added our sight word of the week I.
