Winter, Upcoming Holidays & More!

This week was a short but a busy one as well! Take a look below for more details on our week.

Our class won the Cafeteria trophy this week.
Our Journey's focus wall for the week.
Our Journey's Home Letter for the week.
We keep this by the door and the students love practicing our sight words by saying them and fist bumping as they leave the classroom.

We worked hard in our Reader's Notebooks to practice our sight words and the letter B sound.
In Literacy Lab, students worked with me to practice guided reading and answering questions about what we read.
For writing this week, students wrote "I see ___" sentences. They worked on drawing detailed pictures, adding labels, and sounding out words to finish their sentences.
We read a winter book called "Snowman, Snowman, What Do You See?".
We also read and put together a book called "My Snowman". They had to find the picture that matched the words and glue it on the correct page. We found lots of our sight words throughout the book too!
Since Valentine's Day is coming up we talked about love and things that we love. We did this fill in the blank book where students wrote about food, people and other things that they love.
For Fun Friday in Literacy Lab, students worked together to play a "Feed the Penguin" game where they fed sight words and other words they sounded out to the penguins.
Mrs. Boxley also came to work with the students on Friday and helped them make their glasses for the 100th Day of School coming up in a couple of weeks!
Students also worked hard in workstations and on iReady lessons. I gave them a goal for the week on how many lessons they could pass and they got even more than our goal! Since they met the goal, they wanted to have extra I Wonder time (choice time) so they got to do that on Friday as well.
Every week, they draw a handful of tootle winners from all of the students who got them throughout the week and they get a pick a prize from the office prize box. This week, our friend Jayleon was a school wide tootle winner and we were all so proud of him!
We started reading our new class chapter book 101 Dalmatians.
We also talked about the upcoming holiday Groundhog's Day and what happens as well as read some fictional books about groundhogs.
Thanks for checking in this week. Stop back next week to see what we are up to next!

Have a great week!

Winter, Charlie & The Chocolate Factory and More!

We worked hard this week in Kindergarten! Take a look below for details on our week.

Here is our focus wall for the week for Journeys.
The Home Letter gives more details about what we worked on in Journey's this week.
We also worked hard in Literacy Lab on reading basic guided reading books. After we read a story, we discuss and answer questions about what we read.
In writing, we worked on writing "I like" sentences about different things that the students like.
We read "The Gingerbread Man" book and looked for our sight words throughout.
We also read an "I See January" book. We traced the words and found our sight words as well.
We read some winter books including the story "The Hat" which is by the same author as the story The Mitten.
Jaxon was doing our Can You Build It challenge in our engineering area and was trying to make the Eiffel Tower.
On Tuesday, we had a fire drill. We worked on being safe and responsible while practicing.
We finished reading our Charlie and the Chocolate Factory book together as a class so we watched the movie on Thursday to compare them. The students enjoyed it!
Thanks for stopping by. Check back next week to see what we are up to.

Have a great week!
