Halloween Spirit Week, Pumpkin Life Cycle & More!

We had a busy week this week! We had our Halloween Spirit Week, worked hard in Literacy Lab and on our Journeys curriculum. We also learned about the letter sounds for S and Z, earned their color black books, and made wedding cards for Miss Reed. We worked on the life cycle of a pumpkin and even got to try pumpkin seeds! The students worked on making tootles for their classmates, practiced sharing their portfolios, earned 2 rewards as a class, and more! Take a look below for more details!

For our Halloween Spirit Week Monday was Hat Day.
Tuesday was Crazy Socks Day
Wednesday was superhero or prince/princess day.
The teachers even had fun dressing up!
Miss Riggs & I dressed up as Koo Koo Kanga Roo, they sing kids "brain break" songs. Ask your children to sing some of their songs for you or look them up on YouTube. Our classes LOVE them!
The students enjoyed seeing Mrs. Schieman dressed up as Elsa!
Thursday was Team Day.
Friday was PJ Day!
In Literacy Lab, we worked hard on so many literacy skills! Students worked with me on reading basic guided reading books. Mrs. Boxley came Tuesday and worked with students as well.
After we read the stories, we completed comprehension questions about what we read.
Students also worked together to complete alphabet puzzles.
Mrs. Ball worked with students on letter books.
Students also worked on finding sight words in a pumpkin book.
As well as finding and coloring certain letters.
And of course working on our iReady lessons!
For fun Friday, students worked with Mrs. Arnold on finding sight words and coloring a blue book.
 Sorting pictures by beginning sounds.
Reading color words and coloring the picture by following the directions.
Putting alphabet pictures in ABC order.
Our Focus Wall for Journeys this week.
We worked hard in our readers notebook this week. Students completed pages on sight words & action verbs.
Letter M & S sounds
Recalling and drawing details from a story.
Students earned their letter S & Z alphabet books as well as their color black books.
We made lists of things that began with those letters, students drew pictures and we made letter cards for our alphabet wall.
Students completed the black mosaic and I hung it up with the rest of the mosaics so far.
They look awesome!
I took the pumpkin seeds home last weekend and cooked them. I brought them in on Monday and the students all tried them! Some students liked them and some did not.
During workstations, students worked with me (or Mrs. Boxley on Tuesday) on a number 10 & color orange pages.
Our Wright State student observer, Miss Reed is getting married next weekend so the students made her wedding cards. We documented on the board some of the things they wanted to write to her in their cards, including her new name Mrs. Donson.
They all turned out so cute and she loved them! Here are a few examples!
We also had a fire drill on Tuesday and the students did such a great job.
Mrs. Schieman came to talk to the classes about being PAX leaders in the lunchroom and how to make good choices. This has been an issue for a lot of classes so she read a story about it.
In our PAX lesson for the week, students made tootles for each other. They circled the reason they were giving that friend a tootle, and drew a picture for them.
They were so excited to get the tootles from their friends.
We finished up learning about pumpkins by learning about the life cycle.
We watched a video as well as read a story about the life cycle of a pumpkin.
Then the students cut and glued the parts of the life cycle in order.
In order to get ready for conferences, students practiced sharing their portfolios to their classmates.
They also shared them with their preschool reading buddies.
 Our October books came!
The students worked very hard on their iReady lessons over the last two weeks and met their goal exactly! They voted and decided they wanted to earn a popcorn party.
So we will be having popcorn on Monday!
They also earned all of their buckeyes this week! They earn these by getting compliments from other teachers or myself for awesome class behavior. They voted and decided that they wanted an ice cream party so we will be doing that on Tuesday.
Here is the information on our community Blood Drive this week that was posted to the ECC PTO Facebook page. Hopefully you can make it!
