Halloween Spirit Week, Preparing for Conferences & More!

We had another fun filled and busy week of learning here in Kindergarten! We continued to work in Literacy Lab, enjoyed a Halloween Spirit Week, did a sorting & graphing activity with Bag of Bones Cheetos, practiced sharing our portfolios with our classmates as well as our Preschool Reading Buddies, finished reading Charlotte's Web and watched the movie, learned 3 new letters and a new color word, & much more! Take a look below for more details on our busy week!

In Literacy Lab, Mrs. Arnold worked with the students on identifying and tracing letters.
 They also worked on iReady.
Ms. Roland worked with students on rhyming words, sight words & simple guided reading books.
In the listening center, the students listened to Pete the Cat I Love My White Shoes and colored pictures afterwards.
I worked with the students on identifying letter sounds, pictures that begin with those letters & simple guided reading books.
We had so much fun for our Halloween Spirit Week!
Monday was Hat Day.
Tuesday was Halloween and we were allowed to dress up as Princes/Princesses & Superheroes.
Wednesday was Crazy Socks Day!
I almost forgot to get a picture so I took them at the very end of the day!
Thursday was Team Day.
Friday was Pajama Day.
The students used Cheetos Bag of Bones to practice sorting into the different bone shapes in the bag (skull, ribs, hands/feet, arms/legs). After they were finished, they graphed their results and then got to enjoy eating them. They were very tasty!
In order to get ready for conferences, the students practiced sharing their portfolios with their classmates.
They also shared them with their Preschool Reading Buddies as well.
We completed a paper about a Square practicing out cutting & gluing skills as well as identifying the shape and discussed things that were also that shape.
We also completed a paper to practice the color word red.
We finished reading Charlotte's Web this week so we were able to watch the movie. The students really enjoyed the movie but were also sad at the ending. Afterwards, we discussed and compared how the movie was different from the book.
The students finished working on our white mosaic and I hung it up.
We also began working on our black mosaic.
We learned our white color word book as well as 3 letter books; J, W & U. We practiced recognizing the letters, made a list of things that began with them, and drew pictures to make our letter cards for our alphabet wall.
We read more Mo Willems books this week along with a funny and festive book.
Our TeachTown lesson this week was Respond when you are greeted.
I sent home an RSVP for our Friendship Feast and only received three back. If you have it completed and can bring it to conferences this week that would be great or I can give you a new one to fill out at conferences! This way we will know how much food we will need. Thanks!
I sent home the sight words that we will be working on this month.
Congratulations to our friend Amaiya who was not only the Asset Builder for the ECC but was chosen as the Asset Builder for the whole district this month!
Thanks for checking in this week. Stop by next week to see what we are up to next!

Have a great week and I look forward to meeting with you all at conferences!
Mrs. Brittany Garrabrant
