Finishing up our letter boot camp, Color Mixing, Guest Student, and more!

The past couple of weeks we finished our "alphabet boot camp" and have begun to focus on one letter per week. We also did another color mixing experiment with Miss. Riggs' class. We also had a special visitor on Friday. Our school therapist Mrs. Lipps daughter, Ava came and joined us on Friday! She worked with the students on a craft, read them a story, and played with them at recess. They loved having her with us in the classroom!

We finished up our alphabet boot camp! We worked on writing the letters U, V, W, X and Y! Last week we were able to focus on just the letter "M". The students have also continued practicing their sight words (I, the, and, like).

We have also continued to practice writing numbers, recognizing the numbers in written form, as well as identifying tens frames with the corresponding number of dots in them. We also have been working on our pumpkin patch counting flip books to practice counting and writing numbers.

Below are some pictures of the students working on some number worksheets where they practice tracing the number, writing it, coloring the correct number of shapes for the number, and filling in a tens frame with the correct number of circles.

We have been working on our pumpkin patch counting flip book this past week as well! The students practiced writing the number, as well as spelling the number. They also practiced their cutting and gluing skills by cutting out images that corresponded with the number and gluing it to the flip book.

We worked more in our workstations this past week as well! The students worked on counting, putting the correct number of beads onto a pipe cleaner depending on the number attached to it, building numbers and letter. They also worked on matching letters, practicing their sight words, matching upper and lowercase letter, and students also worked on I-ready math.

Our pax teacher introduced writing tootles for classmates and demonstrated to the students how to write tootle. The students then wrote a tootle to another classmate. They practiced drawing an appropriate picture for their classmate as well.

We also had two more students share their treasure blocks!

Last week we worked on the color orange. We earned our orange book! The students learned how to sign the word orange, and also learned how to sign multiple words such as carrot, oranges, and jack-lanterns which are all orange. We practiced this during calendar while singing our orange song!

Since we earned our orange books, our next color mixing experiment was to make the color orange! The students first predicted what would happen when red and yellow paint was mixed. They documented their predictions, and then we headed over to Miss. Riggs' class to find out what would happen! When the students mixed the colors they found that they turned orange!

Below is a video of the students mixing up the two colors on their plate!

One of the things the students did when they had a sub while I was working with them on testing was a bat craft! The students read a book about bats and learned about them! After learning about bats the students then got to make a bat and write about them. They turned out really good and are now on our bulletin board! The students did a great job of thinking of things that bats are, things that they can do, and what they have. They also did a great job writing it onto their papers!

Below is a picture of my example for the students!

Here is what our bulletin board looks like! It says "We're Batty About Kindergarten!"

We also had our Literacy Night as well! It was great to see you guys! Unfortunately I didn't take many photos, only one of the read aloud of Cotton Candy Clouds! It was a great book!

In Literacy Lab we worked on the beginning letters S & T and D & L . The students did some picture sorts, read letter books, colored in objects that started with those letters, did a cut and paste activity for the letters, and more! We also practiced and reinforced some of the things we have been learning in Journey's, as well as practiced finding our sight word of the week and writing it! As always, the students also practiced their reading skills on I-ready!

On Friday in literacy lab the students played bingo! Our guest Ava helped them when playing bingo by calling out the letters they had to find!

We also did some fall crafts this week! We colored in, cut out, and glued a pumpkin that was hung up out above our cubbies! This was great cutting practice since many of the pumpkin pieces had zig zag lines!

Our helper, Ava also helped us with making a craft! Since we have been working on learning and identifying 2D shapes, we used the different 2D shapes to make an owl! The students each were able to pick what shape they wanted, Ava helped them with tracing it, and they cut it out and then glued the wings, eyes, and beak to the shape! They also wrote the name of the shape on the owl. Since this craft was more intricate not every student finished. But I will be working with them on Monday to finish their shapes!

Below are the pumpkins that the students colored, cut out, and glued!

Here are the shapes of the students who finished their owl shapes. I will be helping the remaining students finish, and then hanging their shapes up as well!

To finish up our week Ava read the class a story called "creepy carrots". The students loved the book!

We had a great week and I am excited to see what next week has in store for us! I hope you all have enjoyed your weekend!
