Week of August 30

We had lots of fun things happening in our classroom this week.
Check out below for more details.

We learned how to use all of our classroom materials and different areas appropriately.
The students really enjoyed playing with their new friends!
We talked about how to be PAX leaders in our classroom & school.
We sorted pictures to show whether they were PAX (positive) choices or Spleem (negative) choices.
We learned about Mat Man and this helped us learn how to draw a person with all of the appropriate body parts. You can find the video on YouTube if you would like to watch it. We used different materials to make our own mat man before drawing it on our paper. Then we learned that we could use our mat man song to also draw a girl or even draw our friends by adding appropriate hair, eye, skin, clothing colors, etc. Ever since we have been practicing drawing mat man, the students' drawings of people have gotten so much more detailed!

Ms. Stewart is a student teacher who is joining our class for the first semester before she graduates so you will be hearing a lot about her over the next couple of months! Ms. Stewart shared her treasure block with the class and then the students drew a picture of her to make into an All About Me book for her to take home.
We also learned about our friend Gunnar and drew a picture for him as well.
The students visit Mrs. Ball's classroom for Literacy Lab every day and will be working on lots of fun literacy based activities. This week, students worked on various activities to practice their name.
Making their name with fruit loops and paint!
Making name flowers.
We have also been working hard to learn our letters! For each letter we do lots of things to help us learn to identify the letter, sound and how to write it. We watched some videos on how to write the letters, then we practiced. We also watched some ispy videos where we had to be detectives and find the letter hidden in the pictures. We read a letter book with things that begin with that letter, completed a couple of pages together to practice identifying the letter and practiced writing it. We also completed our interactive notebook picture sort of things that start with the letter and things that do not.

Below are pictures from us learning the letters A, B & C

We also learned about and practiced the shape circle.
We learned how to spell the color word red. We sang a fun song and read our book along with it!
Students got to take their books home so they could practice reading it at home too.
Below is a link to the song:
Ms. Stewart reading a story to the class.
Our art teacher, Mrs. Riley, did a fun summer art project to make popsicles!
As always, we love playing outside!
Our school introduced the PAX classroom trophies this week. Each week, a different class will be awarded with each trophy and get to display it outside their classroom for the whole week!
They couldn't wait to see who won them. We didn't win any this week but we will keep trying!
Each week, along with the trophies, there are a handful of students whose name are chosen out of all of the students who have won a tootle that week. Our friend Jaylah was chosen as a Tootle Prize Winner and got to choose a fun prize out of the office treasure box!
You also received the September Homework & Reading Log.
*For the homework, once your child completes an activity, put an X on that box. If your child completes a Bingo, they will get to choose a treasure from the treasure box. If they complete every activity on the whole board, they will get to choose 2 treasures from the treasure box! The homework must be signed by an adult in order to get credit!
*For the Reading Log, students color in an apple each time they read or are read to for 15 minutes until all 20 apples are colored in. For a completed Reading Log, students will get a Pizza Hut coupon from the Book It program and a treasure from the treasure box. The Reading Log must be signed by an adult in order to get credit!
Thanks for checking in, have a great week!
Mrs. Brittany Garrabrant
