Getting Ready For Conferences, Art Activities & Earth Day Bags

Even though we had a short week, we were able to get a lot of things done! Check out all of our hard work below!

We continued to research in order to write accurate information for our non-fiction books about our reptiles/amphibians. In these pictures, the students were researching where their animal lives. Lucas found out that the green sea turtle lives in the ocean and Destiny & Kuryn discovered that the Horned Lizard lives in deserts in North America.
We continued to work on our animal camouflage art projects in art class. We worked very hard to make our animal look camouflaged in with the background and we can't wait to share them with you at our next open house!
We have also been working hard at creating our water color paintings of our animals in their habitat. Take a look at some of the children working on their paintings below!
In order to get ready for conferences, one of the things we had to do was update the students' achievement rings. They were all very excited to be able to add more beads to their rings and were very interested to see which beads were left for them to keep working on! Take a look!
We also went through our exploration journals and writing folders and chose our best work to add to our portfolios! We talked again about choosing quality work that was finished with both words and illustrations on every page! Take a look at the kids choosing their best work, and then putting them in their portfolios!
We also started a project to decorate paper bags for Earth Day. We worked with the Montgomery County Solid Waste District who provided us with the bags and once we have decorated them all, I will be dropping them off at Kroger for them to use to bag groceries on Earth Day (April 22nd). We have started decorating our bags and will continue to do so after break as well! The students have enjoyed this project so far!
In continuing our reptile/amphibian study we have continued to watch videos and webcams of different animals. Here is a picture I took of a webcam we observed of a bearded dragon!
We also continued to observe our reptile trunk. In the pictures below you can see Hayden and Colemann looking in a guide book to try and figure out which type of turtles the shells belonged to. Lucas was putting the frog life cycle in the correct order as well as observing the mud print.
Once our portfolios were ready for conferences we practiced sharing our work with our peers in our class. We shared with a couple different friends in our class. Take a look below.
Once we shared with our class, we invited Mrs. Myers class to come and listen to us share our work with them. After this, we were ready to share our portfolios with our families at conferences!
I hope you have a great rest of your spring break! We will be starting poetry when we return from break and I am excited to see how much the students will enjoy it!
