Beginning Our Sports Study!

We had a short and busy week! Thank you to all of you for being patient with us in the rescheduling of our Chinese New Year presentations! We were able to present those to you all on Wednesday. Of course I forgot to take any pictures or videos but here is a video I had taken from before break that I posted to YouTube:

We welcomed our new friend Riley to our class this week!
We finished our letter Q card as well. We only have 3 left until we finish our alphabet on our word wall!

The kids were excited to earn our last color word book, pink.
We finished our brown color mosaic to hang up in our room and now we only have black, white and pink left.
Before break we asked the students what they wanted  to learn about in order to get ideas for our next study. There were quite a few students who wanted to learn about sports so that will be our next study! We began introducing the topic and discussing some of the many different types of sports. We talked about some of the shapes we see in different sports and talked about the specifics of football and soccer. The kids thought it was very funny that in different parts of the world soccer is called futbol. We will continue to observe and learn more about different sports, the rules, uniforms, equipment, athletes, olympics & other championships, and many more!

We plan to spend a few months on this study because there are so many things we need to learn about! We can't wait to share what we have learned with you and we will be having an open house before school on Tuesday, March 24th at 8:45am. We will have our projects, books we have written, and anything else we have created related to our study out for you to come observe and your child to share with you! We hope you are all able to make it!
We introduced all new workstations and discussed how to use each one. The kids are excited to work with them starting next week. In workstation #1, there are two things for the students to work with. They find the pumpkins that having matching numbers, number words, and tens frame dots. Then they have to trace the sand paper number, say the correct number, and then make it with wikki stix.
In workstation #2, the students have to look at the number words and number of tens frame dots on the cards and write the matching number.
In workstation #3, the students have to match the correct shape to the word, and then make it on a geoboard.
In workstation #4, the students have to match the correct number of objects to the correct number card, as well as match the correct number on the clothespins to the correct number of dots on the circle.
In workstation #5, the students use the scale to compare measuring the weight of different materials.
In workstation #6, the students play with a friend to say the correct uppercase letter, lowercase letter, or sight word that is on the fish and "feed" it to the penguin.
In workstation #7, the students have to match the picture cards to the correct letter in which that word begins with.
In workstation #8, the students write sight words and conversations on the smart phones, and make a path with sight words ice blocks after they say the correct word in order for the polar bear to cross.
In workstation #9, the students have to put cards that show an event in sequential order.
In workstation #10, the students have to put the puzzles together with the correct rhyming pictures and words.
Don't forget that Wednesday, January 14th is QPT day and the students do not have school. I updated the upcoming events page for the next couple of months so take a look and add these important dates to your calendar!

Thanks for stopping by! Have a great week!
