I hope you all had a great holiday and vacation! I enjoyed lots of family time and rest and I hope you all did as well! We had a busy first week back getting back into the swing of our routine. We had a great week of learning and fun! We spent a lot of time talking and writing about what we did over break. We then shared the stories that we wrote about our winter break with our reading buddies. We have started guided reading in literacy lab as well!
On Monday we started discussing what we did over winter break. We used this "Find a Friend" paper to compare our experiences. The students went around the room and asked their peers if they did any of the activities listed on the paper over break. If that friend did, they had to write their name in the appropriate box. The students carried around their name tags in order to help their peers write their names correctly. We had a lot of fun learning about what our friends did over break and sharing our experiences!
This week during writing, we wrote about what we did over winter break. The instructions were very open ended for this and the students could write about many different activities that they did over break. I forgot to get pictures of their work but I really enjoyed hearing all about what the students did over winter break. On Friday, we shared our work with our preschool reading buddies. After we shared our work and read a few stories to them, we sang songs together.
During literacy lab this week, we started to practice reading simple books that have our sight words in them. Here are a few examples of what we read this week. Sometimes, we will have books for your child to take home and practice reading. Other times, we might use books that belong to the school so the students can't take them home but we will continue to practice reading them at school.
The students were so excited to see how big our pumpkin plant had grow over winter break! They are anxious to see if we can actually grow a pumpkin!!
I love Kindergarten art work. It's nice to know the students missed me over winter break as much as I missed them!
The students have decided that the next topic they want to learn about is: The Ocean! As a class, we made a list of things that we already know about the ocean, including what animals live there, other things we can find there, what color it is, what makes waves, etc. Then we made a list of things we wanted to learn about the ocean such as what animals eat, how the water is blue, how does coral survive, and more! I can't wait to dive in and begin our ocean study. I'm excited to see what the students come up with!
Thanks for checking in. Stop by again next week!
