Math Night, Plants & Poetry!

We finished our poetry book this week and it looks so awesome. I can't wait for you all to see it. We will share our poems with you all at our Poetry Cafe next month. Here are some pictures of the students finishing their work. A big help to Mrs. Boxley & Ms. Dupont for their help!
At the end of our book we made a meet the authors page including a group picture and signatures.
I also took a picture of the class with me to include in our book along with a poem I wrote for them.
Since we finished our Rescuers book, we were finally able to watch the movie. Even though it wasn't anything like the book, the students really enjoyed it!
We have also been continuing to water our plants in order to grow our flowers!
After spending a couple of days free writing poetry, we wrapped up our poetry study. The students emptied out their writing folders and put all of their poems together and decorated a cover to make their poetry journal. The students will also share these with you at our Poetry Cafe as well.
We also began observing our plants and documenting what we noticed has been happening.
Instead of documenting daily we decided to write twice a week. This week we wrote on Monday & Friday. Take a look below at some of the students writing.
Adele said "Nothing is really happening".
Jordan said "No plant is there".
Kala said "Nothing happened to my plant".
Brayden said "My plant has not grown yet".
Raegan said "My plant didn't grow".
On Tuesday a few of the plants began sprouting! Some even have multiple sprouts. The students were so excited! Some still have not sprouted yet so those students are hoping to come back from the weekend to their flower sprouting.
Some of the students wrote "I have one sprout" while another wrote " I don't have a sprout yet".
On Thursday we had our Family Math Night. It was wonderful to see so many families participating in the activities together. Thank you to everyone who was able to attend or help out and thank you for coming to visit me at the estimation game where I was helping!
Our friend Jeffrey in our class guessed the closest to the popsicle sticks in a 4 way tie.
We also read a book about the plant life cycle and the students enjoyed coloring it as well.
The students enjoyed sharing their poetry journals and plant life cycle books with their preschool reading buddies on Friday.
Denise brought in this chapter book for me to read with the class. The students really enjoy the writing style because it makes them laugh.
We also enjoyed the nice weather outside by playing with bubbles during recess!
We began talking about what it means to have an opinion and what kinds of words we use when we are writing about our opinion. This coming week we will begin writing opinion pieces about various topics.
Here are some pictures of our plants as of Friday. Some of them are sprouting so big and some have many sprouts! I can't wait to see what they look like on Monday after a nice sunny weekend!
Thanks for checking in to see what we were up to this week! Stop by again next week.

Have a great week!
Mrs. Brittany Garrabrant
