We had another busy week here in Kindergarten full of learning and fun! We have added some water activities to our science, look closer and small hands areas. These water experiments allow the students to use their fine motor muscles to squeeze the water droppers and transfer it from one container to the other. They have enjoyed working with water in these areas.
On Tuesday, Mrs. Boxley (my mom) came to help us plant flowers. She worked with each student to add soil and seeds into peat pots with their name on it. The students can't wait to see if we can grow flowers in our classroom!
We talked about what flowers need in order to grow (soil, water, sun, space, air). The only thing our flower still needed was water so we decided that we would water them 3 times a week in order to help them grow. This will help teach the students about responsibility.
The students also enjoyed playing outside before this crazy snow came over the weekend!
We have been working on writing poetry and we have also been reading poems from this book as well as from former students.
One of the types of poems we worked on was acrostic poems. I shared former students poems as well as the welcome poem below. I provided them with papers to write acrostic poems about spring, earth, music, star wars, and mother.
Here are some examples that we wrote as a class. We sounded out the words so it might be harder to read. The earth one says, "Each person can, act in a, really good way, to, help our Earth!". Our music one says, "Mrs. Whiteford, unique, song, I am singing, cheerleader".
Our Star Wars poem says, "Storm troopers, The Millennium Falcon, A Jedi, really cool, Wookiee, A light saver, ready to battle, Star Destroyer". The students also helped me write a poem about my mom and it says, "Mrs. Boxley, Oh she is great!, talented, helpful, excited, really awesome!".
We also worked on writing a 5 senses poem about a jellybean. Each student got a jellybean and they wrote about what it looked like, smelled like, sounded like (this one took creativity), felt like and finally tasted like (I think this one was the students favorite!). Below you can see some of the students enjoying their jellybeans!
Here are a couple examples of the students jellybean poems by Isaac and Denise.

The students shared the poems that they have been working on as well as a sight word book with their preschool reading buddies! They also shared with them what they did over spring break.
We have begun working on our poetry book through Student Treasures.
Above you can see what the cover of our book will look like. Below you can see our title and dedication pages.
Here is an example of one of the student pages by Jordan. He chose to write his All About Me poem and did a great job. I can't wait to share the final product with you all and the students can't wait to read their poems to you all at our Poetry Cafe next month!
Thanks for checking in to see what we were up to this week! We look forward to another fun and busy week coming up.
Mrs. Brittany Garrabrant
