Love Is, PAX Quiet & More!

 We got a lot of work done in our short two day week! We worked in Literacy Lab, learned about Martin Luther King Jr.. wrote about what love means to them in order to make a class book, shared our work with our Preschool Reading Buddies, did some new work stations, practiced PAX quiet & more! Take a look below for more details on our fun week!

We worked hard on learning new vocabulary words in literacy lab. We focused on the words explain, grow and shelter. We discussed what the words mean, used them in a sentence and drew a picture.

 Mrs. Arnold worked with students to practice letters, letter sounds, and guided reading.

 Students also worked hard on iReady lessons!

 Mrs. Roland worked with students on rhyming words, sounding words out, and guided reading.

 Students listened to the story A Snowy Day, then drew a picture and wrote about their favorite part.

 I worked with students on a sight word book for the word 'The'. 

 We read books, watched videos and discussed Martin Luther King Jr. what he did to help people as well as why we celebrate him every year. The students were fascinated and really enjoyed listening to 'Kid President' explain it.

As a class, we discussed what love meant to us. The students wrote about it and I made their papers into a class book called "Love is...".  It is now in our library area where the students can look at it.

The students shared their 'Love Is' paper with their Preschool Reading Buddies as well as a sticker story they did (I forgot to get a picture).

We introduced some new stations this week as well. Below Gage & Laylah are working on a number puzzle and a matching animals puzzle.

Gracie & Jaelynn are working on an alphabet sequencing puzzle.

Anthony is working with felt letters and putting them in sequential order.

 This week we worked on learning PAX Quiet & Granny's Wacky Prizes. When I blow my harmonica, the students practiced stopping what they are doing, quiet mouth, and eyes on me in order to hear instructions. We will use Granny's Wacky Prizes when the students are making good choices. 

Below you can see Mrs. Phillip (our PAX coordinator) doing a Granny's Wacky Prize with the students. This one was act like gorillas! It only lasts for a short amount of time but the students have really enjoyed them so far!

We have continued to read Mr. Popper's Penguins as a class as well.

We also did a Teach Town Lesson for Stay Calm When the Schedule Changes.

Papers sent home this week: A Yearbook order form

A paper about dressing up for the 100th day of school since that is coming up in the next couple of weeks!

We are looking for volunteers for our 100th day of school celebration on Friday, February 16th. If you are able to help, please return this paper to school.

Your child will also need to bring in 100 of an item. I attached a zip loc bag for you to put the items in, please send them back by Monday, February 12th.
