Mother's Day, Countdown J-M, Spring Sing & More!

Even with students having off school for QPT day, we had a jam packed week full of tons of learning and fun! The students made lots of things in order to get ready for Mother's Day and they took their presents home for their Mother's on Friday. We also did the letters J-M for our End of the Year Alphabet Countdown and had a visit from the High Schoolers for their annual Book Drive. We also practiced for and held our Spring Sing Kindergarten music program.
Take a look below for more details on our awesome week!

We have been growing plants in our classroom for week now. I haven't posted about it because we wanted it to be a surprise! Mrs. Boxley helped the students plant the seeds of Cosmos flowers.
We learned about what plants need to survive and over the last month or so, the students have been taking care of them. We kept them on the windowsill in order for them to get sunlight and watered them every couple of days. They really enjoyed watching them grow!
We observed, documented, and wrote about what we noticed happening with our plants.
"I have a sprout."
"I'm still waiting for my sprout."
 "Where is my sprout."
 "My sprout is getting bigger."
In order to get ready for Mother's Day, students created some of their own gifts for their moms. All of their gifts were put into a white paper bag and the students decorated them beautifully.
They also dictated a survey about their mom that I wrote for them.
Here are just some of their responses. I enjoyed doing these with the students, I hope you enjoyed them as well!
Of course we made Mother's Day cards too!
We also taped a fun label over a bag of M&M's. The paper that goes with it is for you to do with your child as you eat the M&M's you can ask each other the questions!
We also included a poem about your flower!
The students put all their gifts in the bag they made and took them home on Friday.
I hope you all enjoyed your gifts, Happy Mother's Day!
For our End of the Year Alphabet Countdown we did the letters J-M this week.
Letter J was jersey day so we wore sports jerseys.
For the letter K day, we did karaoke!
On Letter L day, the students wrote letters to their 1st grade teachers. They told their first grade teachers about themselves, asked them questions, and told them how excited they were to meet them! These letters will go in the student's portfolios so you can give them to their 1st grade teachers!
Here are a few of their letters!
Letter M day was Movie day! Thank you to everyone who brought in a movie, the students voted and chose to watch Hotel Transylvania.
On Tuesday, the High Schoolers came to our class for their annual Book Drive. They read the story Green Eggs and Ham to the class. Then the students colored a picture and were able to pick a free book to take home. We enjoyed our visit from the High Schoolers!
On Monday, all of the Kindergarten classes got together in the gym to practice for our Spring Sing music program.
Our friends who had speaking parts did a great job!
Then on Thursday morning, we got to ride on a bus over to the High School to practice on the risers in the auditorium.
Thank you to everyone who came to our Spring Sing. The students did a great job!
Since we talked about it last week, I took their picture of them holding a chalkboard that says what they want to be when they grow up. These pictures will be going in our end of the year video!
We enjoyed playing outside this week in the hot weather! Jade used chalk to draw a beautiful cat that she was very proud of and wanted me to take her picture.
Tuesday was Teacher Appreciation day and my mom brought me flowers, a balloon and a cupcake. How sweet!
The last sight words paper of the year!
Thank you for checking in to see what fun things we have been up to! Check back next week to see what we are up to next. Have a great week!
