Reading Buddies, Letters, Literacy Lab & More

This week in Kindergarten we learned about five new friends, learned about our last "I Wonder" station, focused on learning, reading, and writing the first 5 letters of the alphabet, worked hard in Literacy Lab, and worked on the numbers one, two and three. We also enjoyed popsicles when it was hot out, worked on being a PAX leader, met our mental health therapist, had a former student visit and read to the class, and met with our preschool reading buddies. As always take a look below to see more details about our fun and busy week!

We learned about 5 new friends (Samih, Johnny, Brooklyn, Ginny, Deangelo) this week, made webs about their interests, and drew pictures to make them a book.
The students also learned about our last I Wonder station, the writing area. They worked on writing letters, making shapes, or writing other students names.
We learned about the letters A-E this week. The students practiced recognizing the letters, writing them in their readers notebooks, and reading our letter books.
After we read the books together as a class, the students practiced reading them to a partner.
Students worked so hard in Literacy Lab this week! We worked in stations and they rotated through various activities. First, students practiced rainbow writing their name and using various writing materials to write their name.
Students also wrote their name and drew a picture of themselves.
They also practiced recognizing, tracing and writing the letters in the alphabet.
Then they used pipe cleaners to make letters and shapes.
They also used play dough to make the letters in their name.
Finally, students made a name flower using one letter in their name for each petal.
They all turned out so beautifully, here are just a couple of them.
We also learned about the numbers 1, 2, and 3. They wrote the number, counted out that number, and colored that amount on their paper each for the number one, two, and three.
Since it was so hot, I brought in popsicles for the students to enjoy on the playground!
On Thursday, Mrs. Phillip came to teach the students about being a PAX leader. She gave each student a piece of paper that had a scenario on it. We read it to them, they had to put it in the green bucket if it showed being a PAX leader, and put it in the yellow bucket if it wasn't being a PAX leader. The students enjoyed this activity very much!
Miss Sarah (Sarah Lipps), our mental health therapist, introduced herself to the class and talked to them about the second step curriculum that she will be using to teach lessons to the class every other week.
On Friday, one of my former students Lauranna, came to visit and wanted to read a book to the class. She read "Ten Apples up on Top" and the students really enjoyed it.
After she was done reading, she came out to recess with us and played with the kids!
On Friday, students also met their preschool reading buddies. We will be working with them every Friday. They drew a picture to give to their reading buddy. When working with them, they introduced themselves, gave them the picture they drew, and read them our letter e book.
Wyatt got a "Tootle" in music class for being responsible and he was very proud!
Samih enjoyed seeing his cousin when we were out on the playground for recess.
I also put up the students pictures in their birthday month and finished our birthday wall this week.
We read this really cool book that showed letters looking like various things as you turn the book!
Important papers sent home this week:
Picture day form and reminder
Information about absences
Thanks for checking in. Stop back again next week to see what we are up to!

Have a wonderful week!
