Planetarium, Literacy Night, Scavenger Hunt & More!

We had another amazing week here in Kindergarten! We learned about our last 4 friends, worked on Journeys, worked hard in Literacy Lab & visited a mobile planetarium. We also had another previous student read to the class, participated in Literacy Night, had our PAX lesson, and made pumpkins! We worked with our preschool reading buddies, read more Mo Willems books, finished our yellow mosaic and had our Fall Family Scavenger Hunt.

Here are the rest of our friends that we learned about this week!
We also worked hard in our Journeys Readers Notebooks. We learned the letters P-T and the students completed the pages in their notebooks as well as a page about characters, and our sight word 'like'.
In Literacy Lab, we worked hard on letter identification, letter sounds, guided reading, and writing letters.
The students also worked hard on their iReady reading lessons!
For our Fun Friday rotations in Literacy Lab, students worked on letter C activities and looking at books.
They also worked with Miss Reed to make a yellow book.
And with Miss Gower to make a pumpkin with their name on them.
On Tuesday, we visited the mobile planetarium and got to explore the night sky. We got to see stars, constellations and even learned about the moon!
The students really enjoyed this!
Another one of my former students, Scarlett came to visit our class and read to the students. I told her that we have been reading Mo Willems books so she was happy to join and read a few to the students!
On Thursday evening we held our Family Literacy Night. Thank you to everyone who came out and participated in the fun activities we had planned, everyone seemed to have a wonderful time! Families who attended received a Road to Reading packet with ideas on how to help their child at home as well as a free book.
I worked in Mrs. Thompson's room on different activities with Mo Willems books. We had lots of his books displayed that many people enjoyed reading.
Students also used the puppets to act out the story "Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus".
There were also sequencing activities for Leonardo the Terrible Monster & Knuffle Bunny.
Students could make a cover for their own story about the pigeon. Traci wrote "Don't let the Pigeon eat a Hot Dog".
Drawing and Coloring the pigeon
Voting whether or not they would let the pigeon drive the bus.
It looks like yes won!
We also watched and listened to the story Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus.
I displayed the student's drawings of Mo Willem's various characters.
Our PAX lesson this week was about our PAX hands and feet and what they do or don't do.
Students gave examples.
Then we learned a song about how to sweep away the spleems (negative behaviors).
On Friday, the students made their orange plates from our color mixing experiment last week into pumpkins. They had to follow the step by step directions and they turned out so cute! The directions were to make the eyes out of triangles, nose out of a circle and they could make their mouth however they wanted.
The students took home books this week for the letters P-T as well as earned their orange color book.

On Friday, the students shared their pumpkins and orange books with their preschool reading buddies.
We also finished our blue & yellow mosaics. They are turning out so great!
We continued to read so many Mo Willems books, here are some of them!
Thank you to everyone who came to our Fall Family Scavenger Hunt on Saturday at Cox Arboretum. We had a great turnout and beautiful fall weather! Most people found almost everything on the list and the front of the group got to see a huge buck run out across the path!! Can't wait to do the next one in the Spring!

All of the classes (preschool & kindergarten) did their hand prints and we put them all up on a bulletin board to make a rainbow tree. It looks so beautiful!!
This week I sent home the October Scholastic order forms. They are due 10/22.
Also our Journeys home letter for the week.
