Christmas, Mrs. Donson & More!

We had a wonderful week back from break! We met a new friend, worked hard on our Journeys curriculum, learned the letter sounds for Cc & Yy, learned the color pink. We also worked hard in writing including writing about our Thanksgiving break, made a sticker story, wrote why Mrs. Donson (Miss Reed) will make a great teacher, and how they would make the Grinch grin. The students worked hard on various literacy skills in Literacy Lab, began working on their Christmas presents to their families, and started working on a Christmas book about our 5 senses. Students shared their work with their preschool reading buddies, we started reading a new chapter book as a class and continued to work hard! Thank you to everyone who came out to our vendor fair at school on Saturday! Keep reading below for more details on our fun week.

Meet our new friend who started this week, Leo!
Our focus wall for the week!
Students worked in our Reader's notebook on our sight word 'a' for the week.
As well as our letter sounds Cc & Yy.
And color word adjectives to describe things.
We made a list of things that begin with the letter C, students drew a picture, and we made it into our letter card for our alphabet wall.
Students earned their letter C book and took it home to practice reading it at home.
We did the same for the letter Y.
Students also learned our pink color song, made a pink mosaic, and earned their pink book to take home and practice. This was our last color book!
Students worked very hard in writing this week! First, they wrote about what they did during their Thanksgiving break.
Our Wright State student this semester got married a couple of weeks ago and her new name is Mrs. Donson. Below is a picture of her and her husband. Her last day is coming up on the 14th.
Students wrote why they think she will make a great teacher. They did a great job.
I will be making it into a book to give to her!
Next, students wrote about how they would make the Grinch grin. Their answers were all very creative and I loved them! Below are a few examples.
I also showed the students how to make "sticker stories". They used a sticker to begin an illustration and wrote about it. Below Anika wrote "I am petting a reindeer".
Maddie sounded out "animal".
In Literacy Lab, students worked with me on reading basic guided reading books, finding sight words, and answering questions about what they read.
We also read books about our letters C & Y. We found and circled our sight words throughout the book.
Below students worked with my mom on practicing guided reading and the sight word like.
They also read and colored a book about the color black.
Also worked on letter and sight word activities.
Students also worked with Mrs. Ball on matching upper/lowercase letters and basic guided reading.
Of course they worked hard on their iReady lessons!
For Fun Friday, students practiced making our sight words with play-doh.
Worked with Mrs. Donson on letter activities for E & F.
Drew thank you pictures for Miss Gower (Mrs. Ball's Wright State student helper this semester).
Read books & looked for our sight words.
We also worked on a reviewing the color word black and made a number book.
Students began working on their Christmas presents for their families. More to come on this later!
They also began working on a Christmas book about our 5 senses called, A "sense"sational Christmas. First, they colored the cover of their book.
Next, they made the shimmering lights on their Christmas trees.
Here are some of their completed pages. They all turned out beautifully.
Students shared their writing about how they would make the Grinch grin, letter Y book, and pink color book with their Preschool Reading Buddies on Friday.
We also began reading a new chapter book as a class, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
The students are really enjoying this one as well!
We also began reading some books about Christmas this week as well. Here are just a few.
Important papers went home this week:
December Homework & Reading Log
Information about our Holiday Vendor Fair & a home letter about our Journeys weekly lesson.
Order form for December Scholastic book order.
Box Tops collection paper & an offer from Lifetouch.
Students received their free book for the month of November!
They also chose which free book they wanted for the month of December.
We worked hard towards our 2 week iReady goal as well. It's hard to see with the glare, but they passed 53 lessons and are more than half way there! They chose to work towards a scooter party so if they meet their goal we will get to play with the scooters in the gym on Friday!
Thank you to everyone who came out to our Holiday Vendor Fair put on by our PTO on Saturday! We had a great turnout and everyone had a wonderful time getting some holiday shopping done.
Thanks for checking in. Stop back next week to see what we are up to next.
Have a great week!

Mrs. Brittany Garrabrant

  1. Is there anything particular the kids should wear for Thursday night Christmas event?
