Caterpillars, Plants & More!

We had an awesome week here in Kindergarten! We worked hard on our Journey's curriculum, worked on the letters X & J, and wrote various opinions pieces. Students finished up writing their poems for our Poetry Book and worked hard in Literacy Lab as well. We received caterpillars for our class to observe on Friday and the students were so excited! They can't wait to watch them grow and turn into butterflies! We also planted flowers so we could observe them grow in our classroom. Friday morning, the students noticed a bean sprout in our garden box and are excited to continue to watch it grow! Kindergarteners shared their opinion writing and letter J book with their preschool reading buddies and of course they worked hard on their iReady lessons.
Take a look below to more on our fun week!

Our Journey's focus wall for the week
Students worked hard in their reader's notebooks to practice sight words
We also practiced the letters X and J.
Sounding out words with the letters X and J.
As well as the pronouns they, it, and I.
Students read our letter X book, made a list and drew pictures of things that have X in them.
We also read our letter J book, made a list and drew pictures of things that begin with J.
This week for writing, we focused on writing opinion pieces.
Students circled their favorite of two choices.
They also picked their favorite ocean animal and wrote about why it was their favorite.
They also wrote about their favorite dessert.
And their favorite sport.
Students worked hard on writing their poems for our Poetry Book.
They turned out so wonderfully and we can't wait to share them with you at our Poetry Cafe!
We worked hard in Literacy Lab this week! Students worked with me, and Mrs. Boxley on Tuesday, on basic guided reading books and answering comprehension questions about what we read.
Students also worked hard on their iReady lessons.
Mrs. Ball worked with students on guided reading and word families.
Students enjoyed Fun Friday in Literacy Lab by using play-doh to make sight words.
We also played a game where students matched the words to the pictures.
On Friday, we received caterpillars for our class to observe and document.
The students were so excited to observe them!
We also planted and watered seeds so we could watch them grow.
Students can't wait to see their flowers sprout!
On Friday, students noticed a bean sprout starting in our garden box. They were so excited!
The top picture was our sprout at the beginning of the day on Friday.
The bottom picture is our sprout at the end of the day!
Kindergarteners shared their opinion writing pieces and their letter J book with their Preschool Reading Buddies.
Students have been working very hard on their iReady lessons and passed WAY more than the goal I gave them! So we will be having a show and tell on Friday, April 19th!
