Alphabet Countdown, Butterflies & More!

As alway we had a busy week! We worked on our Journeys curriculum, continued to observe our caterpillars and let them go once they turned into butterflies. We continued to watch our plants grow, worked hard in Literacy Lab, made more things for Mother's Day, and began our end of the year alphabet countdown. We had an assembly, shared our work with our Preschool Reading Buddies, and had special visitors! We watched a movie, earned some special rewards,  passed on the music trophy, and much more! Take a look below for more details on our fun week!

Our Journeys focus wall for the week
Students worked in their Reader's Notebook on sight words for the week.
As well as reviewing and practicing words that begin with different letters.
We worked on the letter K, earned their book, made a list of words that begin with K, and drew pictures to make our letter K card for our alphabet wall.
We continued to observe our caterpillars and watched them grow into butterflies.
The students loved seeing this transformation happen!
We documented the various stages that we saw them go through: caterpillar, j shape, chrysalis, and butterfly.
Once they turned into butterflies, we let them go!
We also continued to observe our plants grow.
We also documented what we noticed.
Students worked hard in Literacy Lab on guided reading and comprehension questions about what we read.
iReady lessons. Next week, students will be taking their end of the year reading and math iReady diagnostic tests.
Students also worked on sorting pictures by blends.
Students worked on writing a poem for their moms for Mother's Day.
They also worked on decorating a bag to put all of their things for their moms in.
They can't wait to give everything to their moms next week!
We also began our end of the year alphabet countdown this week. Every day we will be documenting what we are doing for each letter. Students worked on decorating their Alphabet Memories book.
A day- autographs. Students chose an autograph book and exchanged autographs with their peers.
B day- Bubbles & Blue Day. Students wore blue and played with bubbles on the playground.
C day- chalk. Students enjoyed using chalk on the playground.
D day- Dance Party. We had a dance party!
On Friday we had a PBIS assembly to recognize students for demonstrating our different building "bees": safe, respectful, and responsible. Students each received a badge for one of the categories and were recognized during the assembly!

Olivia & Kaiden from Miss Riggs class helped Mr. Doyle demonstrate the wiggle dance!
Kindergarteners shared their letter K book and their caterpillar documentation with their Preschool reading buddies.
My mom, Mrs. Boxley came to visit this week as usual but she also brought my cousin with her who was in town visiting. The students enjoyed meeting her!
Our Poetry books came and the students were so excited to see how it turned out!
We can't wait to share them with you at our Poetry Cafe!
This week we finished reading our story James and the Giant Peach so we watched the movie to compare.
We started reading Stuart Little as well.
Students met their iReady goal for the week so we will be enjoying extra recess! Next week we will be taking the end of the year diagnostic tests.
Students earned all of their buckeyes as a class and chose to have a game of Sharks and Minnows so we will be doing that next week as well!
We received the music trophy this week and were excited to deliver it to Miss S's class on Friday because they won it for next week!
